Anyone else finding this brilliant viewing? I love it haha. You can tell Peter and Sian Gibson are good friends...am sure some of it is improvised. It is just such a good, well written laid back comedy.Watch out for some of the signs..very subtle

One of the few comedies we've genuinely laughed out loud to in a long time.

I don't think it will. I am hoping due to its success they might commission a Christmas special. Seeing as John is in charge of the christmas team..and we would get all the 80's and 90's xmas music lol

Agree with this, I enjoy it and have laughed quite a bit but it is more BBC3 than prime time BBC1...

We were the same,sat there like a cpl off Googlebox for half an hour.Not a patch on his other stuff,it may have something to do with the fallout with Dave Spikey and the other fella who shared the writing on his programmes.

IIt doesn't have to be a North/south competitive tthing. Most countries with more balanced economies than ours have strong regional identities. I think it would strengthen us to make more of regional identity against the London takeover.

I am from Portsmouth (could not get any more southern than me...well isle of wight and channel isles i suppose) and i got it 100% and loved it. Mind you...i am a big peter kay fan.

Back on track.

I think the show is fabulous, considering they are in the confines of a car and no other props, the banter and use of facial expressions are spot on.

Right from the start with the bottle of piss, through to the dogging scene each show brings laughter to all.

I see a little bit of romance coming, but it will end in tears at the Xmas do.

Sooooo boring! Where are the jokes? As ever US comedies like Bad Teacher; Two BrokeGirls; Goldburgs; Marry Me are packed with jokes and sentiment too. Why do Kay, Ricky Gervis and the people behind No 9 make such sentimental, dark, slow & humourless soft dramas? More bellylaughs please

Johnny Vegas is pretty good live. He's a bad compere, but a good closer as long as you can get him off the stage.

There are regional differences in humour, but also in a town, one chap (Joe Lycett) can storm it in one pub, but not do so well in another.

I saw the bottle of piss thing coming a mile off, and thats when I turn off comedy.

The last 3/4 series of Benidorm have gone that way.

I would love more Phoenix Nights but Gavin and Stacey was superb and was pulled at the right time (leaving us wanting more) where as Benidorm has gone on for too long and a lot of us fans now hate it.

A lot of the best humour needs a dark or morose edge. Did you see the Doyle Family episode where Nanna died? I cried at that, but there were laughs in there too. A lot of American stuff us just one wisecrack after another. Funny, but ultimately formulaic. They tend to written by a large team of scriptwriters and it shows. No depth of character. And we don't use canned laughter to prompt us when to laugh.

The last 3/4 series of Benidorm have gone that way.

Best thing Kay did was That Peter Kay Thing. He should do more of those. Single shows, with really odd characters and a good cast.

I wasn't a big Peter Kay fan, but this is pretty good, given that it's pretty much just the two of them in a car.

It's fairly inoffensive, doesn't use too many set pieces and has scope for a bit od ad-libbing between the two, and overall is not too bad at all.

Watch it back, he actually interacts with the audience. You can't fake that. Its just genuinely funny. A canned laughter track is obvious. It always sounds canned.

I know what you mean but even 'House of fools' I think is canned. I think they both are along with other things, I dont have a problem with that. I dont watch Mrs Brown as again I see the punchlines coming, while it is Irish, it gets nominated in UK Comedy/Tv awards so I class it as ours.

I think PK is a genius, not in everything he does, I read his autobiogrpahy and even that had me laughing out loud I'd give 'car share' 7.5/10

You might be right about adding a bit of canned. My mate and his Mrs went to watch house of fools being recorded. It was funny but it was five hours recording. They had to do a lot of retakes as its a lot more technical than people think. Matt Berry kept everyone amused though, as he did his lines completely different elwith every retake.

Sorry but I find American comedy basically unfunny tried watching 2 broke girls, modern family. scrubs and others and they struggle too raise even a smile?! The only good one is Everyone Loves Raymond and that's not new stuff!!

This new Peter Kay is not his best work but at least you get a laugh and there's always something in his shows you can relate to in real life!! Which man (and maybe woman) hasn't inched forward in a traffic queue to sneak a look at the pretty woman / man in the hope of getting their attention!!
