I'm such a wimp!!

in my own little world :-)

Have just checked in the fishtank, and one of the goldfish is face down in the rocks at the bottom (it hasn't been well for a while, but I've been hoping it will recover).

I know I should get it out of the tank and put it out of it's misery, but just the thought of it is making me feel all unnecessary - and not in a good way!

if its not well and you think it is suffering then surely its the best thing

fish it out and put it in the freezer, most humane way of doing it x

Can't flush 'em down the loo either - I'm terrified they won't flush - or they'll come back!!

The quickest, most humane way is taking it out in a fish net and quickly whacking it in the sink while still in the net x

Put the net in and try and scoop it up. If it's still alive it will scoot off. I suspect it may be dead though, and if you don't fish it out it'll rot - or the other fish will eat it.

You could always do what Siren once did to ..ahem.. despatch a fish... you could wrap it up in a tea towel and smack it with a brick three times. (God's honest truth, that's what she did!)

Nope, she couldn't face opening the towel up so threw the whole sorry mess straight in the wheelie bin.

For someone aka 'Bonecrusher' - I thought that was a little bit wimpish.

Ok - it's done, I managed to fish it out - although it did have a mad 30 seconds fight left in it - wrapped in in a dishcloth, put it in a platic bag and smacked it with a rolling pin.

It's now very dead - but not suffering anymore - and dispatched to the wheelie bin.

I feel sick!!

You did the right thing, a bash to the head is the best way to do it even if it is nasty! Do not put them in the freezer or leave them in the sink if you want to be humane, and don't flush them down the loo, even when dead! If they are poorly they will take their germs with them to harm other ickle fishies...

Sorry, I used to be a fish nerd!

Now you've done the dirty deed I can tell you the best way to kill them. Put some water & ice in a glass and pop it in. It'll die in a few seconds.

I wish I had seen this post earlier.

For future reference to all of you. If u ever get fish in this position, juts sprinkle a pinch of table salt directly on the fish. repeat every half hour until fish recovers.

It sounds weird but i assure u it works.

Probably too late now but have you tried a 15% water change? Or tested the water for a build up of ammonia and nitrates/nitrites? Or that the PH balance is still suitable? It could be indigestion so try feeding peas instead of dry food ... fish do get constipated
