Air miles

As a very frequent traveller, I have recently had mentioned to be about air miles. I have heard of it before but never looked up on it due to thinking it was solely for business'.

Nevertheless, can anyone give me some advice on it, in regards to how it works and how to use it to the maximum.

When I fly I usually use many different airlines, I don't really have a particular airline.

Thanks!

Find a credit card company that operate that scheme. That way it does not matter what airline you fly with

Google the airlines in (may even be more):

Sky Team

One World

Star Alliance

I am sure you can claim the points up to 6 months after travel

I fly 6 to 8 times a month, long and short haul and reckon I'm something of an Air Mile anorak! It really does depend on where you fly and trying to maintain loyalty with one scheme associated with multiple airlines. And then, as one poster has said, find a credit card that rewards you with air miles to buy stuff! I'm a heavy user of the BA Scheme and use them as much as I can because they reward loyalty and I benefit enormously. I buy all my business travel with Amex and transfer hundreds of thousands of Avios (BA Miles) to the BA scheme every year for free flights and upgrades. BA also run an "ON Business" programme for small businesses but this is only of any use if you have more than a couple of people involved.

Yes, most schemes will allow retrospective credit of miles. BA has a 4 month cut off.

Thanks for the advice, I've always been a little sceptical about credit cards, I have never had one and to be honest have never planned on having one either.
