Well in terms of the law you should be fine. I found that people were great up there, especially in the Highlands and around Skye...People will let you pitch anyway or sleep in car/motorhome etc without problem, even in pub car parks [though it means they know you will drink in the pub!]

Good luck hope you have a great time...and the things posted above are good sense...especially not watching Dog Soldiers, but mainly because it is truly a shit film!

Wish England had more of the Scottish rights to roam etc. I've never wild camped but spent a lot of time in the countryside and also in Scottish highlands. You can't believe the midges you'll get there.

I'm interested in the concept so will watch for more details.

If you go near loch lomond there are by-laws regarding wild camping due to damage & anti-social behaviour, be sure to check on them.

Please remember that if you imbibe alcohol, the drink driving limit is less than in the rest of the UK.

And remember to take all your camping kit home or dispose of it properly - friends who regularly wild camp/munro bag are starting to find ore and more abandoned kit.

The 'wild' will no longer be the 'wild' if we treat it like a big dumping ground.

If you come to the Highlands you won't need a tent as you can sleep out under the stars on these balmy nights. And don't forget your bikini, you'll pretty much wear nothing else.

Plan to get to your start area around 14:00 latest so you can get a good leg if your route done first... I did the falls of Glomach, Strathcarron area and Kyle of lochalsh lastay to miss the dreaded mosie season. Plan a figure of 8 route then you can leave some of your stores, good and boxed wine( easy to carry as it's on the bag,) at the car and replenish half way round! PlUs you can get rid of your rubbish responsibly,

We loved it cooked over an open fire and carried our food with us. Plus bought fresh eggs from local farms when we came across them. And invest in a kattadyn water filter pump so your not carrying endless gallons of water

You won't get a signal in the highlands either way!

I love Scotland spent many weeks camping along the islands

Midges shouldn't be to bad by august.

I always pack a power bar as a movie on the I pad mini at night is great... I recommend dog soldiers. The hills have eyes and 28 days later

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

Check you can actually carry all you need. I wild camp quite often especially round the ballater area. Love it.

Take nappy sacks and baby wipes (take the wipes home, they take ages to degrade) a wee trowel does fine for digging, and remember to cover it over afterwards.

Take your mobile - keep it switched off, but in case of an accident make sure you can reach it.

Know how to read an OS map - if you get lost or hurt it can really help.

If you do drink and sleep in the car - be aware you can be done for d*unk in charge of a vehicle, and the legal limit is lower up here too, so be very careful driving the next day too.

Warm clothes, and a dry sack, so when it rains you have dry things to change into.

Before you go buy a good stove and don't forget pots, cups and eating irons I would recommend a tangia they are easy to light (don't forget to buy some storm matches and a screw top tin to store them in)(nothing worse that being cold and not being able to make a hot brew because its blowing a gale and your matches are wet!), will work in any weather pack away nicely inside their own pots and windshield. Also don't forget don't forget fuel and plenty of water.

Don't camp on flat ground next to water, its not nice waking up in the night to find your tent flooded! and when pitching your tent pitch it up and down hill rather than across the hill...

Carry some spare tent pegs and rip cord...

Take a good sleeping bag, it may be August but it can get really cold at night!

Try the kintyre way a new walk from tarbet to the mull of kintyre some amazing scenery and the midges arent as bad ,hope you have a great time and enjoy our beautiful country x

OK they are not as quick as some to boil water but they always work and don't go wrong.
