Mis-informed judgements

Are you the type of person who can make a mis-informed judgement about someone ,purely based on what someone else tells you ?.

Or would you reserve said judgement until meeting ?

I have never gone by someone else's opinion, here-say or even, to a degree my own judgement!

Even if I don't get a warm feeling about someone on initially meeting them, I attempt to sit back, let them unfold a bit then decide if my initial impression was correct.

Same here, my gut instinct serves me well and has kept me safe.

I think you can meet someone and sort of know if its a warm feeling or the hackles rise and i think. noooooooo .

thats when i back off.

I am normally a good judge of character, and have a good gut-feel.

However, I have been known to make the odd mistakes!

I have learnt from my mistakes and moved on though.

Are we talking about people we would meet off this site or in general day to day life ?

Both i suppose.

On here it would be easy to get the wrong impression about someone you havent met, solely relying on someone elses opinion.

I much prefer a nice opinion , and wait and find out face to face.

Its always the wise thing to do .

If you have not seen it with your own eyes , you should never believe it , just my opinion.

I think we all make such mistakes now and again, I try not to let my first impression be my last and give people the benefit of the doubt but I am human and admit that sometimes I get it wrong.

I know I am judged a lot by my posts, rightly or wrongly I guess but I don't lose sleep over it, those that know me know me.

i like to think im a good judge of charachter but have made one or two mistakes along the way but to be honest i dont think it was down to me misjudging people it was more the people i thought they were changing

beyonde recognition .

sometimes if a friend recommended some to me from here tho id trust them but dont always have the same tastes as them tho .

Im not saying i have never prejudged anyone but hope that with age comes a little wisdom.

One of my best friends became so through someone bieng malicious many years ago.

She had been given such leading info on me and she apologised .

We were extremely good friends till the day she died.

That was the day that i decided never to make harsh or unfounded judgements about anyone till meeting in person.

IMHO, it is possible to form a good idea of what a person is like without meeting in person on a board like this, via their written communications, openly and privately.

After many years of volume people management, I am usually right 9.5/10.

I will always form my own opinion.. and if wrong, I will say and apologise.

Likewise, my opinion is my own, formed based on information, knowledge and experience of the subject matter available at the time.

I am not always right, however, I am seldom wrong!

I always reserve judgement and make up my own mind.

Mind you, if a reliable friend tells me something about someone else I bear it in mind when meeting. Still make up my own mind tho

I think the question is leading.... who on earth would make a judgement whilst knowing they were being mis-informed?

Would I make a judgement about someone I didn't really know based on what someone else said... hell yes.

Of course it depends on the level of relationship I have with person is who is telling me, how much evidence they present and how plausible it sounds… and of course bare in mind their possible motive. But all the same…… those who say "no no no , I'd always wait to make my own mind up"..... bollox!

Most of you do it every day making judgements about people because you read/hear something in the news.

Are you telling me if your best friend came up to you with a bruise on her arm and said "I had a meet with XXXX69er last night and when I said I wasn't interested he grabbed my arm, pushed me against the pub wall and called me a prick tease"... that you wouldn't think "what a cunt!"

At the end of the day, I am who and what I am, and if peeps do not like me, it is their problem, not mine!

I am not one of those who can alter myself in order to conform to a certain ideal or to suit another person.

Never have, and never will.

wow, cheers Pearl... got one of my favourite dancing round my Fendi handbag tunes in my head now.......

I am what I am

I am my own special creation.

So come take a look,

Give me the hook or the ovation.

It's my world that I want to take a little pride in,

My world, and it's not a place I have to hide in.

Life's not worth a damn,

'Til you can say, "Hey world, I am what I am."

I am what I am,

I don't want praise, I don't want pity.

I bang my own drum,

Some think it's noise, I think it's pretty.

And so what, if I love each feather and each spangle,

Why not try to see things from a diff'rent angle?

Your life is a sham 'til you can shout out loud

I am what I am!

I am what I am

And what I am needs no excuses.

I deal my own deck

Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces.

There's one life, and there's no return and no deposit;

One life, so it's time to open up your closet.

Life's not worth a damn 'til you can say,

"Hey world, I am what I am!"

I don't necessarily go by what people say - however I find I'm too trusting which leads to 2 things:

1) When such person proves everyone right I look and feel like a mug

2) I'm more disappointed the person had no problem proving everyone right, but then I guess its in their nature

I think sometimes people form an opinion of what someone is like from forum posts, I find people are so much nicer in person. Thats because the written word can very often be misconstrued, even to the degree that if you put an exclamation mark in the wrong place it gives a whole different meaning to what a person originally intended. It wouldnt be a good place if we formed opinions on what was written here

I tend to go by instinct, but can't help but be coloured by others opinions on things.

I am finding that I Am getting more cynical since joining fab though, I find it harder to out the timewasters online, than i do in face to face encounters.

I tend to take people as I find them now. I spent 30 years not liking someone because of friends opinions. I went to a school reunion got talking to the bloke (he was married to my cousin most of this time)and we got on great I wouldnt say we're best friends but I do regret behaving as I did and missing out on a good friendship.
