Has anyone on here had any experience with people who use Neuro Linguistic Programming?

A guy I work with did the course, but uses it primarily to bang dirty gullible students, which I find a bit creepy.

Me thinks the trainers have not explained ecology to them.

Yea I met a recruitment consultant who promised me that he'd get me the perfect job. Did it happen... No, in fact every role he told me about was a load of balls!

They're basically just good at talking and think they can read people well

A bad dentist does not mean that dental hygiene and work is not effective.

As someone pointed out, 'ecology' was certainly a principle that was missed. It's not a static field, as it has modeling, which is a part of how people learn, as its principal focus. Sure, you can take bits of it and apply as you want to.

Derren Brown uses lots of it, which hints how well it can work.

Ultimately, we are all responsible for our own choices and behavior, even if we've all chosen and done things we've later seen in hindsight as not the best for us.

People are open to influence, it's an essential element of being social beings. How it's achieved may certainly be open to question but that is largely due to the motivation of the perpetrator.

He tries it with people at work, but it is very blatant and most of the guys are actually far more intelligent and can see right through it.

On nights out it seems to be quite successful in the 19-23 age bracket but I think a more mature lady who actually knows her own mind will see it for shit.

I have had to use some of the principals in my work, but it is a small tool in a big tool box and it does have its limitations.

There's a difference between someone who has got a couple of tricks, albeit very clumsily applied and someone with mastery, such as Derren Brown.

A quick course in anything will allow someone to cut a bit that they will try to use in the real world. There's no equivalence to someone who's long since had to stop thinking about what they're doing, because they just know it. Most of us drivers have gone from being clumsy, thinking about each foot or gear movement, planning to look in the mirror every few seconds etc, to becoming auto-pilot drivers, able to fluently navigate most road conditions.
