"Someone was just bitching to me about Labour not getting in until I pointed out that she had voted for another party and not labour #hypocrite" Really? How odd.

"Check the Seat map. London is red. There's still hope..." Because UKIP have no traction in inner London. While only getting one seat they've taken Labour votes in many areas which weakened the position.

But UKIP's campaign resonated with a lot of people who probably might otherwise have been labour voters. But not so much in London because the demographics are different.

Instead of voting tory they went for the more extreme version and voted UKip.

"Chuka is the obvious one (and should have been made leader long ago). Dan Jarvis - possibly an even better bet. Liz Kendall (maybe)" I think any of them could be place holding for a few years, and then the other Miliband might make a triumphant return from America, with experience of actually running something and enough time between his brother resigning and him returning.

I actually wasn't referring to 'up north' anyway, because the Northern urban areas will vote Labour come what may, but inner London is very different from pretty much everywhere else in the country.

" No - Cameron's holding on by a shoe string. The vibe will be very different by the end of the year. Any of those three would appeal more than Cameron. Jarvis is probably the most sensible as the overall move to the right has been quite marked and his military career will appeal.
