It seems like past polls.

No one will admit to voting Tory for fear of being attacked , but privately they will.

More folk will rely on food banks and this is shameful in a so called developed country that it is looked on as a good thing yet we send billions on foeign aid yet people here suffer it disgusts me.

Balls looks like he will be gone.

Feel a bit sorry for the Lib Dems, but the seeds of this result were sown 5 years ago when they abandoned their principles for a share of power. The electorate has long memories and it may well take a generation for them to recover, if they ever do.

It may also signal the end of left wing politics. It was a calculated gamble from Miliband to position the party further to the left than any Labour since Michael Foot and it has backfired spectacularly.

The LibDems will go through one of their reshaping and renamings. What can they be this time?

The left is stronger but it's expressed as SNP votes, which will unfortunately means we will have a stronger push from the right in England for English only votes.

Fingers crossed this won't mathematically be the case. Once 'devolution' is sorted, (ie the ability of the SNP to vote on English issues is removed) Cameron will have a working majority over Labour on most issues.

They pushed hard to turn their coalition partner's seats to their own - look at the SW. Alongside talking up the SNP threat, which froze out Labour seats in England. And, of course, the smaller parties and a pissed off electorate voting for them.

Because oeople are looking out for themselves and bit of self delusion is happeni g fact is nhs in five years will be defunct. Millions more will end up relying on food banks and yet folk think its good.

No good the tory voters bleating about nhs etc they help cause its demise.

Re the snp if the the poweres that were promised to them to kerp in uk had been delivered had been delivered the snp vote would have been less however by not doing so has damaged the uk system as such forever and for one would not blame them going for another independence vote. I might move there ?

Then cut public services harder than ever before, privatise the nhs completely so you will pay to see a GP and take working class people back to victorian times so well done this country is well and truly screwed for the next 5 years and also with cameron wanting to leave during his tenure i can see bojo gaining the leadership in 3 or 4 years time!

This is very true. Also, have you noticed how on all social media platforms the more left leaning the author, the more offensive and rude the author is about others who disagree with their point of view.

I have never heard a conservative supporter refer to others as scum, twat, cunt or any other word that is regularly used by those of a more socialist mindset.

This is more or less what I said earlier about people not admitting they voted Tory to the pollsters for fear of being branded scum. The language of the far left is vile and they are by far the most vicious hateful mob in British politics.

This maybe why the conservatives have actually gained seats.

I lost a huge amount of respect for him after his newnight interview with Evan Davies a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure he is what the Labour party needs right now.

"All i can say is that those who voted tories are ethier rich or taken in by there 'promises' which they will break asap.

Your prediction of the future is as incorrect as the opinion polls were. People voted conservative for stability and because they recognise the need for continued prudence. "

People voted conservative for three reasons:

1) They are economically illiterate, and believe the false narrative constructed by billionaire newspaper owners.

2) They are intelligent, but completely unconcerned with the welfare of anyone other than themselves,

3) They are simply stupid.

What a sorry day for British politics, possibly the worst in living memory. If you are a Tory voter, I won't waste my time observing that as an architect of the destruction of our country you hang your head in shame, as shame is an alien concept to the congenitally ignorant and self-centred.

Is there any way Scotland can take Bristol with them? I feel disgusted that we have to be associated with the majority of England, I really do.

"How can the British population be so ignorant and lazy regarding getting off their bloody arses to vote? "

They predict the turnout will actually be quite high compared to past elections.

With Ed Balls losing his seat in Morley the Conservatives have lost their biggest asset.

The next election will prove to be very hard to win

If the nhs gets privatised I won't be able to afford bills, shopping and her medical care. Might as well call us 'Little America' now.

This result has been surprising given the UKIP factor. The conservatives have been hit by a loss of votes to UKIP, but it is the loss of Labour votes to UKIP that is a really big surprise.

Not sure what Labour can do next as they are being perceived as too left wing and class divisive in England and too Conservative in Scotland. No one could have predicted this kink of Labour collapse and there is no single identifiable reason. It is just a mess for them and no obvious instant solution.

Sorry, I don't agree. If the electorate can be led to vote by a media who ignore journalism and the reporting of facts in favour of promoting fiscal illiteracy that simply favours their owners, their are no other conclusions you can come to than the three I outlined. Class in defeat is neither here nor there.

I think all the above tells us much more about you than the electorate.

Amazing how the anger and rage pours out of the left when people who don't agree with them don't vote 'correctly', as they see it. Clearly, not only has the true left lost (for almost 4 decades, (you could hardly call 'New' Labour left)) literally, but also philosophically, economically, morally. Hence your irrational anger.

Agreed.

Bad for democracy, bad for inclusive politics and bad for encouraging voters to engage.

But laws are made by the winners, and they tend to favour themselves.

It will still happen, but sadly it will take another term to eradicate the Tories, not the swift cut that was expected.

The results will be very, very different in five years, when the parlours state of the country will be such that even the most blinkered Tory voter will have a hard time believing their party telling them it is all the fault of a government ten years ago.

And many Tory voters will have died of a combination of old age and a depleted National Health Service by 2020

Nah,

"Dave, we're all Tory noooowwww"

(In a "league of gentleman" style voice)

The next generation are Tory too according to the results from the schools

Everyone of school age is Tory. Then they grow up.

The irony of your vitriol, is that you, and others like you have contributed to the Labour defeat, and yet you cannot see it. "

it is a fact that younger people have more left wing views that gradually change as they get older. The increased turn out of younger voters would normally favour the Labour Party

That used to be the case, but many of them see that they will have to pick up the tab for our mistakes and they're starting to turn.

Suddenly Labour quietly dropped their plans to extend the vote to 16 yr olds...

But I don't see how a large UKIP vote in England should somehow be represented in Scotland. The SNP may not have got as many votes as UKIP but it is representative of the Scottish voters.

The argument always falls flat for me when you are apparently 'rich' if you vote tory....

Oh yes, I have seen some vile comments, usually as a resort of toys being thrown out of the pram or when an argument can't be backed up.

Apparently being a Tory supporter means you must be rich, vile, selfish scum...

God forbid that you should just be realistic about what is possible compared to what's been promised and not trust certain parties based on YEARS of track records.

"All i can say is that those who voted tories are ethier rich or taken in by there 'promises' which they will break asap.

Your prediction of the future is as incorrect as the opinion polls were. People voted conservative for stability and because they recognise the need for continued prudence.

Hence your irrational anger."

Don't mistake me for a Labour voter, I hate them too.

You are right about the true left losing though...and that says far more about the electorate than it does about me.

Now that Thatcher in trousers has a second term he will do what his idol did in her second term, unfortunately he does not have the mining industry and its unions to target and destroy so my money is on the NHS and its unions being his target. Also as Thatcher destroyed our heavy industries and deregulated the financial services I expect this twat will do the same sort of hatchet job on the Armed Forces and our food and environmental safety regulation...

All of us in the North can look forward to our water being contaminated as the US fraking get the green light to rape our country so long as the top Tories get to trousers a bit of the profits!

"

Bullshit, there is another option which you've wilfully not written and that is the person voting like that is intelligent AND *does* have a regard for the welfare of others.

What people who keep voting for lovely-seeming socialist policies keep forgetting is that whilst the arguments for those policies are difficult to argue with (it would be *lovely* if everybody all the same money / assets / whatever), that path always, ALWAYS has led to national economic disaster. The socialist experiment has been going on for over a century. And history shows us it does not work.

And when the experiment does wrong - as it always does - the rich are less rich (sometimes), but still rich, but the poor are inevitably even poorer as a result. The 'poor' ultimately suffer from socialist policies when they inevitably go wrong, and economies need to be fixed. They're like turkeys, keep voting for Christmas... well the poor ones anyway - the rich socialists are the, erm, disingenuous ones, voting with their heart, and trot off with a warm glow but never thinking of the ultimate consequences for the poor - that is always blamed on the 'evil' people putting things right.

So don't patronise with your ridiculous views of what people who vote Tory are like.

It's not a "shy Tory " effect it's that Tory voters are a little cautious of telling people who they vote for for fear of being branded stupid , illiterate , self serving , self centred people who have no regard for the welfare of others.

The Tories on Fab have been just as insulting, if not moreso, than the more left wing fabbers to people of a different political persuasion than themselves.

The mind boggles at how 'gracious' they would have been had the shoe been on the other foot."

Please give an example of Tory supporters being more insulting than yourself

".......

I think it was!

The argument always falls flat for me when you are apparently 'rich' if you vote tory....

(And bring on the onslaught)

The facts disprove your assertions. It's just that most people are to stupid to understand economics, and they rely on the Tory newspapers to massage the real meaning of the figures for them.

And this again.

"Stupid", "blind", "brainwashed", etc.

I don't read newspapers full stop. I go off of my own experiences, as do most.

And these so-called "facts" are usually twisted and turned to avoid the finger being pointed in the right direction. But the FACT I'm talking about here is that a lot of comments from left-wing supporters have been disgusting throughout this election.

"If you do no agree with me, you're an idiot".

Don't forget this little cracker: "...most people are to stupid to understand economics...".

So, not only have people voted 'incorrectly' in that person's view, they are also 'stupid'.

How utterly, utterly blinkered, patronising, self-aggrandising and nasty. And not a little dangerous that sort of: thinking process. I'm sure Hitler started off thinking like that. Again if you keep loosing, it must be hard to take, but really, you should stop embarrassing yourself.

It's not a "shy Tory " effect it's that Tory voters are a little cautious of telling people who they vote for for fear of being branded stupid , illiterate , self serving , self centred people who have no regard for the welfare of others. "

So they don't want to stand up and be counted type of thing? Why would anyone give too hoots what others think if you are a Conservative?

I have noticed that most of the bitter and "you must be stupid?" Comments have came from the people trying to claim the high moral ground.

There is very little between the two major parties if you ignore the rhetoric. We are not voting for freedom from slavery vs Khmer Rouge and year Zero killing fields.

In five years time you get to do it all again.

"Well I actually voted Conservative because I don't think Cameron has done a bad job.

According to some you must be an economically illiterate, stupid imbecile who relies solely on the Daily Mail to inform you

That was only one of two options.

Let's not forget that the other is that you are an intelligent person, who has no regard for the welfare of others than yourself.

Only you know which one you are.

However, most Tories will fall into that category. This is why the polls got it wrong, why there is the 'shy Tory' effect. It's a fact that a large number of Tory voters are ashamed of their own self-centred nature, and are consequently ashamed to admit it in polite society. And who can blame them? They are dismantling this country brick by brick.

They are nothing if not cognisant of their own nature, at least.

So don't patronise with your ridiculous views of what people who vote Tory are like."

But you must do? Surely? I can't believe you actually think for yourself?

I wonder how many people have blocked me now. "

It's a good filter.

I voted Conservative too. Not because I agree with everything they've done, but it was the best option on the day.

Or maybe they're just sick of trying to have a civilised debate with people who either resort to abuse or claim they must be stupid, ill-informed or self-centred...

But they have stood up and been counted. The election result shows this. When someone is calling you stupid scum isn't it easier to just not answer a pollster than run the risk of being verbally attacked.

Its been interesting that's for sure, think Cameron is probably as surprised as anyone just how well his party has done..

Can see a very different outlook for this nation in the future, the SNP if they are true to their beliefs have no better chance to make Scotland independent..

will Cameron's legacy be that of the man who by using the scare tactic of the SNP/Labour to win this election eventually led to the break up of the UK..?

Many other big questions have arisen, what do the Lib Dems do to resurrect what looks like a sinking ship and where does Labour go to..?

impersonating the Tories since 97 has not proved long term to be popular with many of the core vote who have drifted off to the kippers..

Costa Blanca Spain...

Would have preferred UKIP to get a few more seats but overall a very satisfactory night.

Labour well and truly shafted from pretty much all sides and the Limp Dims wiped out.

Whoopy Doooooo.
