It's about time they weighed the passenger and hand baggage together and set a reasonable limit, oooh let's say 91kg.

Last time i flew, one large passenger spent half the flight drooling over my packed lunch.

Yeah my luggage has been lost before so now I always carry a couple of changes of clothes and as many of my toiletries and cosmetics as I can (they're the things that are expensive to replace) in my hand luggage.

My carry on seems to consist of nothing but electronic items these days.

iPads, iPods, battery packs, Chargers and cables etc etc

I hate having to try stuffing large carry on cases and bags into overhead compartments so we tend to stuff as much as possible in our hold luggage and just carry the essentials into the cabin.

If everyone turned up with a carry on bag to the exact dimensions allowed by airlines there would be chaos and a lot of swearing in the plane.

Now if they can't get it all in (fnar fnar) they'll put it in the hold for no extra charge. This happens quite often on Ryanair Ireland services as everyone is very canny about just how much they can carry without paying extra.

Wouldn't that just cause delays? I can imagine people protesting to the cabin crew that their hand luggage is correct size and demanding keeping it in the cabin. Also if you have valuables, passport, jewellery, cash, cards inside it would be a nightmare rummaging through the bag trying to find it to remove it before it went in the hold.

Thank god we've never flown with Ryanair or easyjet.

They've had to start doing it because if everyone turns up with a small case they won't all go in the overhead bins and they don't fit under the seats. They're fairly quick about it but it is your own responsibility to take out anything you don't want going in the hold. So yes, a bit of chaos but it's only been a few that I've seen on flights I've been on.

It's the airlines own fault for trying to get us on and off quicker with just hand luggage so they can sell the hold space.

I travel to Ireland every couple of months and I've seen this in action. You do get a few complaints but everyone complies and I've never seen a delay because of it. Ryanair staff just patrol the queue and let you know your bag will be going in the hold. Once next to the aircraft your bag is taken and put I the hold. No delays. A friend of mine expects his case to go in the hold every time and he prepares for this. The way he sees it is it's saving him money.

I have found they only pick out the hard cases though. I have got through with a small sports type bag when all around me have had to put theirs in the hold.

Up to ten containers of 100ml (not 100ml in a 200ml bottle) all in a clear bag that will seal. Don't forget to put anything liquid in from your make up bag ladies (mascara, lip gloss, foundation).

Yeah. Luckily they were all tracked down eventually but the first time I had no change of clothes for a few days. Can ruin a holiday. So now I do a mini pack for my hand luggage. Takes the stress out of it.

It took nearly three weeks to get my case back once and so I ended up having to replace most of my make up, even with cheaper versions it was still pricy
