I understand we also had a meet Organized!from birmingham just beacuse i have a yorkshire accent they called of the meet and this couple was very rude about my accent how strange i thought meet was about having fun alos i Love the scouse accent ?

I used to think that too until we met a man on another site with a thick Manchester accent and we couldn't understand a word he said !! ( I am guessing he toned it down when we all spoke on the phone )It made the conversation inbetween the fun a bit hard and we just nodded a lot, god knows what we were agreeing to

lol i think the accent is very hard to understand is the Glaswegian but could never say i hate it i think they are funny when i worked in glasgow it was hard to undertand them but what a laugh and fun night i had

I'd have to disagree, I live in south Liverpool and find that people in the north of the city have a much more course and lazy accent, specially when they use the word like or as they would say "likkkkkkkkkkkkkkkke", sounds like they're trying to bring up flem

There is just a broader scouse accent with some people whether it's north or south !!! I know people from Wirral with broad scouse accents.

personally I am from the posh part West Derby lol well it used to be ha ha

Oh there is, you just switched off !!

I have relatives in South Liverpool and can't understand half of what they are saying, Bootle accents are strong too..and it depends on which part of West Derby as to how refined it is, you must be in the posh bit

never been a north / south divide for me !!! doesn't matter where you are there are alway s' going to be some with a harsher accent then other's

John bishop is an example !!! but I suppose it's is the person who is listening at the time

and oy west derby was always posh !!!

and is even posher now I have moved back

and anyway not everyone speaks proper english the way I does....

Because so many people move to the West Country as a lifestyle choice or to retire here we are surrounded by people from all over the UK, it's not that I 'can't stand' a particular accent it's more that I occasionally find it difficult to comprehend what they are saying if they speak too fast.

Up North :-)

I tend to like regional accents, it gives individuality and colour to words. wouldn't it be so boring if we all talked the same way. I also like foreign languages and the passion some invoke. To me an accent or someone who speaks with emotion in their voice is a big positive.

been here 7 years now and still could not tell you where each accent is from...I can recognise a scouse accent and I guess bristol and birmingham....but still rubbish at being able to tell where someone is from.

Ive got a strong accent and I have no desire to lose it whatsoever, but it drives me mad when people repeat things I say as if its really funny and as if Ive never heard it before

I like regional accents, I think some of them sound verrrry sexy, and I think they are one of the things that make us all who we are. Would hate it if we all sounded the same.

yes i have to agree with Mally has a person who was originally from the Wirral but lived in south of Liverpool for over 20yrs and now lives north of liverpool the accent is stronger north.

Scouse,sounds like they have a throat full of phlegm they're trying to clear.

Gallagher style Manc sounds nasal and skanky.

Would never buy a used car from someone with a cockney accent,lol.

And a strong Essex accent is just wrong.

i dont like geordie accents even though i have worked with geordies on lots of construction sites.

i cringe when i hear the accent now even though a lot of the geordies were ok sort of guys,must just be co's of the militant union members bullshitting everyone into strikes and downing tools at the slightest things.

I wasn`t going to say none but you`ve just reminded me of one that does get my back up1 Not just the accent, but I suppose it`s the attitude and history of the country too! The Dutch speaking Afrikkaners were even more a hated race that the English speaking South Africans. Just ask my sister her _iews, especially after her 18 months she spent there!

The thing about accents is that noone believes they have one!

I dont have a Birmingham accent as I didnt grow up in Birmingham but in Warwickshire, I guess I do have a Midlands accent. I quite like the Newcastle accent, I like the way they refer to women as "our lass"

When my Dad was alive I would have to translate to my husband as he couldn't understand him at all. He was from Dundee in Scotland and that was where I was born although I left very young so don't have any Scottish accent at all.
