Tena lady maxi thingies work well as hand cushions on my crutches.

Hair bands work well to close bags of things.

What else can be used for things it was never intended for?

Large fruit/vegetable boxes make reasonable laundry baskets.

Smaller ones like the posher tomato boxes have been drafted in as makeshift trays. Saves having to wipe up any spillage.
