I only say online what I would be happy to say to a persons face.

Sometimes that means I don't always say what I'm really thinking

I probably hold back a bit in the forums as it's easy to be misunderstood etc - having said that I would happily say the same things face to face with a person, I do believe in tact and diplomacy though and would hesitate to say something unkind or hurtful. Z

I'm more toned down in here as I'm aware how things can be taken in the wrong way with text only communication.

I'm a terrible wind up merchant in real life and live for getting a rise out of someone. But you can get away with it with a cheeky smile and a wink, that don't work here so I hold back biting my lip pretty much all day lol.

I also do way more bad dancing and piss awful singing in real life.

As a general thing it seems that people don’t ask the same sort of questions in real life as they do in these forums. Never had anyone ask me if I think they are being a cunt for cheating on the wife/husband for example. And when you see such question as, ‘Do you like the taste of spunk’ its not really the sort of thing for dinner conversation! Same sort of thing applies to PM’s, things we’ve been asked that have NEVER come up in a face-to-face!

So while I would like to ‘think’ that I’m the same in here as in the real world I would doubt that it’s actually possible.

Generally yes although I can have more Frank conversations with fab members than I can with vanilla friends.

I wouldn't walk into a shop or down the street & say you have the most stunning eyes, bet they hide a few naughty secrets' etc or 'your legs are gorgeous' it's more likely to be just eye contact & a smile lol

FAB gives you Grins!

I do count to 10 before posting on here... it has actually brought out the calmer side of me...

so I don't say anything on here that I wouldn't say face to face.... I use the "pub" scenario in my head... if i would say it in a pub, then I would say it on here

I'm more restrained on here as often writing in text the context is lost.

I was told that the majority of communication is tone and body language and that gets lost on here.

I do occasionally like to stick a little wind up in. Not through malice, more for devilment really to point out the hypocrisy of a few posters on here.

yep although you do have to reflect a bit more when you put something into writing as once it's written it's there forever. Also it is not negotiable as it would be face to face and easily open to misinterpretation.

I always say what i think - not usually in malice, and if it comes acrross the wrong way, face to face - its easily repaired.

I have noticed on here - if its taken the wrong way and 40 other posters jump on it- then its really hard to repair the damage as it all gets taken out of context.

.

Hold my hands out to the posters who count to 10 and think twice etc. Inever do that - usually cos when i am posting its usually for a bloody good laugh and when pops into your head first is the honest response - it you start to think about what you have to write then i sometimes think that people are trying too hard to be funny/witty/snidey etc.

Most of the time this place is a good chatty place to be, so i enjoy it when i can

I dont know why some people choose to be rude. There is no need for it, I am polite with everyone. OK so occasionally some people need to be told if they are harrassing another user and the like, but rudeness just for the hell of it just winds people up.

Sometimes in face-to-face situations I can't think fast enough about what I want to say and frequently reflect back and think, "oooh wish I'd said that" or "that didn't come out quite right", but online I have enough time to write down what I want to say, go over it and make sure it makes sense and make any alterations if I feel it gets my point across better.

It's not so much that I'm a different person on the forums, but more of a case of I have more time to really be 'me'. If that makes any sense.

There is a fine line between being honest (and not compromising that honesty) and being rude and offensive. I would never wish to upset anybody but then I would not wish to lie either. Hope that makes sense.

I have to say I am slightly less abrasive when "face to face", but the actual content of what I say is the same, its just when I look someone in the eye I tend to be a little more diplomatic.

Call me an old softie, but I dont like hurting peoples feelings, and even if you disagree with someone, the way you say something can often soften the blow.

I have to smile hugely at this one as so so so many just don't and end up being the mouse not the Lion.

But after a fair few socials, party meets and the rest even the ones who say i speak my mind just don't face to face. Personally i save what i have to say for up fount and friendly chats as its far better with eye contact.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

I agree that at least most of us will have a distorted image of ourselves that feeds into this.

But....

socials, parties etc don't include whingers and timewasters, so the opportunity isn't really there.

No I wouldnt hide behind a keyboard either, but in real life when you meet forumites at a social or whatever, people arent really interested in indepth conversations etc like we have on here, they are there to say hello and have a laugh etc, so its usually lighthearted. If someone asked my opinion on something I would give it, if they didnt ask my opinion and I was opposed to what they were saying,I wouldnt offer it.
