"I kept my married name: it's mine! Didn't celebrate my divorce: I mourned the end of my marriage, we started with such hope and love. It was the death of our son that ended the marriage...what's to celebrate about that." That's a shitty card to be dealt. My condolences.

"You have to change your name back by Deed Poll. Dont cost much" Is this for like, official purposes? Can I still do stuff in my maiden name? I know I can change my name at the docs and stuff just with proof of my divorce, but that's not really 'official' is it?

"I've stayed with my married name because I'm known by a nickname which is a derivative of my maiden name and sounds daft with my maiden name after it (like Ally Allinson or similar) I celebrated my divorce by getting my nipple pierced, but it didn't heal properly so I removed it after a few months" A divorce marker that wouldn't heal... All better now though, cruel woman that you are.

"I kept my married name just because I didn't want a different name to my son. Oh, and keep your Decree Absolute safe, it's amazing how many people misplace them & they ain't cheap to replace " It's on my dad's mantelpiece although nothing is safe in that house, cos he burned the bloody garage down a few months ago.. Oops

" You can just show the bank etc your decree absolute and tell them you are reverting to your maiden name. No need for the deed poll unless you are changing to a totally new name. It's official.

" As long as you can prove you are reverting to maiden name - don't need deed poll. I was told if I wanted to revert, I would need my birth certificate, my marriage certificate and my decree absolute. As long as it is clear that its "your" name, its fine. I stayed with my married surname for my son, and also my maiden name is a nightmare to spell, and its nice not to have to spell it out half a dozen times and for folk to still get it wrong!

" My bank account is in my maiden name anyway, but they know that I was married and didn't change it. Should I just pop into a branch next time and chat to them to see if they need any proof of reverting back to the name I already use? lol sounds silly when I say it like that!

For the doctor just think about being able to trace your medical records back if you needed an operation, for instance. In everyday life you can call yourself what you like but some things it's best to follow through properly.

"Kinda following from the name change thread... for those of you who are divorced, did you change your name back to your maiden name? I never changed my name on any documents, I didn't see the point as I never used anything anyway... but now that I'm divorced, I want to go back to my maiden name. For my passport and bank account, I still use my maiden name, but for my doctors stuff I use my married name. Is there anything official I need to do? I don't really get the whole name thing to be honest! Can I revert back to my maiden name using my decree absolute? Also, on a side note, as a few people have mentioned it to me, did you celebrate your divorce? " No I did not celebrate my divorce. I loved my husband and I'll never be loved like he loved me again. We divorced for reasons that were long drawn out. Not every marriage that ends , ends in acrimony. I wasn't married to a feckless bastard. He was amazing. I kept my married name because it never dawned on me until my daughter mentioned that it's not mine. I have thought of changing but maybe i'll save it until I have the energy and time to waste. You can call yourself what ever you like apparently. No need to change by law. Exept in certain circumstances. I want my Gran's maiden name anyway. Not mine.

"I can never understand why someone would want a party to celebrate a divorce...no matter what the reasons of a divorce, that person was someone you once loved and it is sad that it comes to a split."

You can't change a child's name without both parents concent I tried to change my daughters but my ex wouldn't allow it " My eldest didn't have the same surname as me, wasn't married to his mother so he had hers, and she asked my permission to change his to that of his stepfather. I said yes cos her surname was crap and his stepdad's is pretty cool. Guess she had to ask because I was on the birth certificate? No way I'd have given permission to change the four with my ex wife though as they have my name.
