I like a nice Rioja myself, both white and red.

A chilled, sparkling red Rioja is fantastic in the sun. Breaks all the rules but its wonderful.

Asda currently have a great cru de cotes du rhone reduced from £10.50 to £6. Well worth a try if you like a nice full bodied fruity red. (And yes i did mean the wine although im open to offers from any fruity reds out there lol)

I really enjoy a medium bodied chianti. But Italian wines are fantastic.

Not a huge fan of white wines to be fair, but I do like a nice Chablis.

Crozes hermitage, cote roti, chateauneuf, malbec, and cote du rhone for reds.

sancerre, semillion chardonnay gewurztraminer for whites.

Tokaji, chateau d'yquem, sauternes for sweet.

White I like sauvignon blanc or sancerre, I'm also partial to a prosecco. Red - chateauneuf-du-Pape or a nice zinfandel, or cabernet sauvignon or cotes du rhone

Pink...i like a white zinfandel....take note future meets

Don't underestimate home grown! Cairn O Mhor, near Perth, does some consistently great soft fruit wines. Best is the elderberry. Super deep red with heaps of real blackberry flavours, not too dissimilar to a port.

They've a great crisp white too, autumn oak leaf which is quite dry but again rich in flavour.

Tasted one of my 1985 vintage Barolo's from my collection a few weeks ago to celebrate a new friendship, and this coming weekend I plan to open a 2001 vintage Amarone.

You cannot beat an exceptional Red shared with great friends

I currently like red wines from McGuigan. The Shiraz is lovely.

I'd definitely recommend D'arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz but it's expensive, so one to buy for a treat.

This goes against everything I thought I knew, but Hahn Estates Chardonnay for a Californian white is exceptionally good.

For reds, I'm happy with a good Rioja.

Brunello di montecellino. It's not cheap at about £30 -£40 a bottle but is the most gorgeous red I have ever tasted. I believe Aldi now stock some fairly good ones and keep meaning to try.

Depends what you want:

I like Alsace and German Riesling

Loire whites and red - do love a crunchy cab franc

My real favourite is burgundy - so a good premier or grand cru

As we are coming into winter - cote Rosie is always nice

And for the summer a cru gamay

I had to correct myself with the brand but the question is, do you chill yours? I start it off in the fridge, but don't keep it on ice and it works room temp as well as chilled...

Aldi do some cracking wines and at honest prices, unlike the other supermarkets who inflate prices to offer half price deals or 3 for £x. Try the Valdobbiadene Prosecco....amazing! Clare Valley Riesling and a nice medal winning Sauvignon Blanc....hic!

You are right - those offers are a joke and it's refreshing to hear tesco moving to a flat model as well a the discounted retailers have change the market there

The problem is most supermarket wine is made to a price point for average pallets and average everyday drinkers

If you want real wine and value seek independent shops - that's where the value comes in

If however your idea of value is an everyday wine and can't tell the difference - I wouldn't argue with shopping at Aldi etc

Once went on holiday to Rome with an ex-wine taster. We were predominantly plastered.

The one that was absolute standout was a German 'ice-wine', ie the grapes are picked in early winter, at night, when they have frozen.

Not usually a fan of white but that was excellent and I bought 2 bottles.
