I'm so bloody annoyed

little house on the praire

I've just had a phone call from the cats protection, when I signed up they promised no one would ring asking me to up my sponsorship.

They've just asked me to double my monthly sponser

I always said if one of my charities did this I'd cancel my sponsorship but can't find it in my heart to do so.

It just annoys me their not grateful for what I give

Can't blame them for trying... but still...

Hope you told them to take your number off their marketing list.

welcome back, they gave me all the emotional stuff but they actually asked for £20 a month, not a donation but an exact amount.

I'm sure they're grateful for every donation.

Could you not have just said no?

They may contact people who are both willing and able to contribute more - hence the purpose of the calls. Did you definitely tick a 'no future contact' box on any paperwork you completed?

A

Have had the same with a certain cancer charity, pisses me right off. Why can't they spend their time drumming up some new trade rather than hassling the donators that they already have

I did say no, and they send me a newsletter and pictures which I like getting but was told when I joined up they definetly wouldn't ask me to increase my donation, one of the reasons I signed up.

Why on earth give them your phone number end of day they like other charities scrapping for money. Block their number.

I cancelled the SSPCA for doing this!

They left me alone for awhile then contacted me asking if I would consider supporting them again and a much lower monthly donation price.

So I agreed, I agree that some charities can be ruthless.

thing is I absolutely adore cats, and they've done their job in making me feel guilty, I give to other charities as well and I give £10 a month to each one, if I only gave to them it might be different.

Don't be. At least you are contributing something.

The fact that you now feel guilty and it's playing on your mind means that they've achieved exactly what they wanted.

I hate to admit that I have cancelled direct debits before due to attempted emotional blackmail. Especially when they have repeatedly called after I've told them to remove me from their calling list.

I understand that they need help but I contribute as much as I can afford to and don't appreciate being made to feel like shit in return.

The people who called are often call centre staff employed by the charity

And they have targets and bonuses to achieve

I know because I've done it in the past

.

.

Ultimately the were foolish to call you

But in plain terms

It's no different to the uutility companies trying to get you to switch

Again I know this because working for the call centre I used to work for, we had many different companies and small businesses and charities employing us

.

.

So I agree with you

But it's not cut and dried

WWF phoned and asked me for more. I told them I already give what I can afford per month to you, X, Y and Z. If you pick one to cancel I will give you their donation and write to them why I'm cancelling. After a moment of deliberation she agreed that it wouldn't be fair so we'd just leave everything as it is.

Seems a bit off. Though I also would not have the heart to cancel.

Personally unless I did not mind upping the amount, would be to ask if I could continue with my current payments and explain I do not appreciate these types of call.

as a cats protection volunteer foster carer, I'm offended by the suggestion that it was done to guilt trip. not how we work!!!!

mistakes happen, very rare that anybody who donates is contacted like this unless they've ticked to say its ok.

the only ppl i ever try to guilt trip, are those who deserve to feel shit.

those who have had 5-6 litters off a 2and a half yr old cat then ring us because shes died giving birth, all for the sake of making a few quid from selling the kittens.

then ppl like me spend our time bottle feeding newborns, 7 out of the 10 i took on last yr survived. the other 3 broke my heart.

The worst ones are the rspca.

I had to call them a few years ago to report neglect. Basically, there were seven cats that had been locked into a flat when the owner had been evicted. There was no way of gaining access to rescue them. I was told that an inspector would be in touch for further details, I never heard a thing. Eventually we managed to gain access to the property when the police negotiated with the landlord. We were permitted just two hours to catch these poor, terrified cats which we then took to a rescue centre 90 miles away as they were the only place who had room.

Three weeks later, they phoned me up asking if I would like to set up a regular donation! I suspect that the person who phoned did not like my response

I remember you hand rearing the kittens, I couldn't remember your username, I wanted to know what happened to you.

I do have to disagree about the guilt trip, in fact I thought she wanted to get me to foster cats the way she was talking about abandoned kittens and no room for them ect.

I know what boxes I ticked on the form and the guy made a big thing about they wouldn't be asking for more money, that's what's really annoyed me about them ringing today.

I am now seriously considering whether I can take another cat.

one of mine is on medication and one has a bad head murmor. Ideally I'd love to foster old cats and give them a good home for their last days, I'm going to have a serious think and talk to the cats home I get my cats from.

that really annoys me too. when i used to work on donation phone lines we were required to ask when setting up donations if they would like to pay more than the suggested donations on the adverts. People were rightly insulted when asked this.
