Water coolers/filters

Hello

I am thinking about starting my own business installing water coolers/filters in the home.

Is this something that people would consider having installed?

As the swinging community seems to be a close knit group I thought this might be a good starting point for feedback.

Thank you

Good question.

If you went for a water cooler then it would be £228 per year rental, that includes installation and 2 services/filter changes a year. Purchase would be £350 including fitting)

A water filter and swan neck would be £100 fitted (purchased) and additional filters £25 as and when needed. This doesn't chill the water though.

There is also an option of a chiller that can go in a cupboard with a swan neck at the sink but am waiting for a price on that

I would go with the filter option. I was thinking about it the other day. My water is harder than Chuck Norris.

Lol.

Yes. It is very high scale area. Bet the ends of your taps are covered and you go through quite a few kettles!

With the filter option there are a few filters on the market and some of them deal with limescale.

Christmas for that price would just be easier to buy a fridge with one built in.

I have a water filter installed, my skin was getting more dry than usual after I moved in and wondered why.

I used a small shower filter for a while and then got a mains filter installed.

Yes. Good point and I could get cheaper but am concerned about the quality.

The other aspect is that not everyone has the space for the big fridge.

Am looking for any feedback about this as it is something I am considering and really want the pros and cons on it and other peoples thoughts

Yes, a bit like Oxford there are areas in the North West with hard water. Sounds like it is doing the job

Just to ask a further question on this.

What do people think would be the best way to advertise this sort of business and market it?

I am good at fitting them but really do not have much idea about getting the business!!!

Any advice/tips are appreciated

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

I live in a soft water area oop north. Our water doesn't need filtering and it's cold enough. May not be a big seller in these kinds of areas. Have you had any market research done?

I wouldn't, because the tap water where I live is fine...would consider it if I lived somewhere it tastes horrible though.

The water quality in the North is generally good although there are pockets of hard water areas.

In regards to market research, no!!

I have worked in the industry (and still do) for a lot of years but purely on the commercial side of things and as an installer.

The company I work for is not interested in domestic installations but we get the occasional call for them so I am curious as to whether I could set up a business to deal with the domestic sector.

As I mentioned earlier I thought the forum would be great to get some feedback as there is such a vast cross section of people I would get some good, honest and frank opinions.

Again, water quality varies throughout the UK. From where you are if you were to go to Hartlepool (about 40 miles down the road it is high in limescale.

So maybe look regionally?

It's essential to research and know your market, before making huge life changes and investment of energy, into a business. Check your competitors, know how you will be different and your costs and strategies for getting new business in.

I don't want water filters but do want air conditioning, now it's warming up.

Who'd consider air con for,home?

Water softener would be great as we live in a hard water area but we threw the kettle out out 2 years ago as we had a bibo installed, chilled filtered water, tepid water and boiling water at a push of a button, looks stylish in the kitchen and an eye opener but comes with a price as you mentioned but would not be without it...

When you can buy them from b&q and buy the replacement filters from Amazon, I think you'll struggle to get 20 quid a month "rental" out of people for a tap.

Not saying these products are bad, but you can also get the worktop (not plumbed-in) ones, also filtered, for 30 quid plus from high Street shops.

I've had two of these and they are great.

Yes. Good advice. There are not many who provide for the domestic market but am starting to look at it in more detail.

Thank you

The Bibo machines do look really good and has a good reputation in the industry.

They are expensive so people may be priced out of them

Yes, again, good advice and as someone else has said I need to research the market in depth and see what people would prefer and be willing to pay
