Well all I done is sit about eating a box of chocolate's that a friend brought me to cheer me up.

It explains though why so many unemployed people are unhealthy and overweight though if this is their life.

when i worked in retail i worked with a splint on my hand due to tendonitis - ive worked with a broken hand in an officeand in constant pain with a bad back as a carer - so a sprained finger certainly wouldnt even consider staying off unless it prevented me doing anything at all

I got hit by a car once while working and they wouldn't cover my calls I only had one more before my break I was told to do my next call and go see the Dr in my break

You can be employed and poor! I work night shifts so I'm free in the days to take my daughter to and from school and to all her classes. In the days I'll take my daughter to school I'll sleep if I've done a night shift, do house work, go to the gym, I mowed my lawns yesterday. Lots of things you can do.

I fractured a bone in my right hand in January. Missed one shift cos I was at AnE, but back in for my next shift. I live on my own, have a big dog to look after. Was in a lot of pain, but got on with it. Being off sick would have caused too many problems for me. Whilst I sympathise with you being in pain, I'm surprised you've been signed off for 10 because of a sprained finger unless your job requires you to use your hands.

"Well the doctor gave me some painkillers and a sick note so its not like it's nothing.

The gag was going so well then you went and torpedoed it saying the doc gave you painkillers & a sick note

Yes I have actually Co-codamol 15/500mg up to 4 times a day.

And yeah my GP has known me since I was 8 so why wouldn't she.?

Self certify for the first 5 days"

Yes but its been 3 days and when I asked her how long she said take 7- 10 days to improve so I asked her if she could give me a note for my boss and she had no problem doing that for me, because she's nice and we always got on.

That's the benefit of having a family GP and I have a huge amount of respect for her shes a Angel

I wanna know what the ops job is too that warrants 10 days off for a sprained finger.

If that's what you consider unbearable pain it's a good job you can't give birth, that's real pain!

Was in a lot of pain, but got on with it. Being off sick would have caused too many problems for me. Whilst I sympathise with you being in pain, I'm surprised you've been signed off for 10 because of a sprained finger unless your job requires you to use your hands.

OMG thank you hun for the sympathy and yes my job does.

Too many haters on here never thought about that first. x"

No haters, just adults wondering why another adult is trying to milk for sympathy. My little one fractured her finger and didn't whine half as much as you, even when it had to be straightened and put in a splint.

It's kept me giggling....

You know when a child has a hilarious but fairly harmless accident and they have one of those over dramatized wailing cries and you shouldn't laugh, but you just do?

Pretty much that

Sadly it's an open forum. I also work with people who have genuine disabilities and wounded service personnel.

I'm far from a hater. I just happen to find you comparing yourself to someone with a genuine disability frankly offensive and just a wee bit pathetic.

Well of course I know its not like losing a leg or so but it still is very real to ME ok and quite frankly if all you're going to do is slag me off for being ill then I leave you to it.

You're not ill either.

Look, I'm sorry you've sprained your finger. It must be a bit sore. But try to be a bit realistic... You're not disabled, you're not ill, in the grand scheme of things it's just an inconvenience.

A lot of people will have negative attitudes towards sickness off work because a lot of people don't get sick pay so have to get up and get on with it.

My brother was recently off sick for a week with food poisoning and only got statutory sick pay.

I'm lucky and receive full sick pay for up to 12 months, but if I take more than 3 days in 6 months it costs me £1500.

With a sprained finger id of told them IAM COMING TO WORK! just stick me in the office till it's sorted
