Millom itself ain't that great. Silecroft just a few miles north has a great beach for running the dog. Some decent walks close by too, climbing Black Combe is worth it if the weather is good. It's a nice stretch of coast if you like the outdoors.

I'm a regular visitor to that part of the Ooop North. I have lots on my itinerary this time, including the Pencil Museum.
