and it is not as good as the book.

What other good books do you feel have been butchered by the movies?

Never do both - either read the book OR watch the film.

I felt that Angela's Ashes was a super film but when I read the book (admittedly afterwards) I was disappointed.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ... the film was good but inevitably had to leave out alot of the detail that made the book so readable ... I am interested to see how the hollywood version compares

I think it is really difficult for a film to be as good as a book. We being so much personalisation to reading and in film it is brought to you on a plate.

I only ever read or watch the film never both. I read angela's ashes and tiz and found them both brilliant but then i didnt watch it. Ive also managed to avoid any adaptation of Jane Eyre as that is my favourite book ever

The Descent by Jeff Long was a dark interesting book, the film was a flimsy film made up of only a quarter of the plot from the book, utter pish!

The two Alex Cross films weren't up to much compared to the books 'Kiss the Girls' and 'Along Came a Spider'. Morgan Freeman is an excellent actor but badly cast as Cross. The stories were butchered also.

Spider-Man is never quite as good on screen as in his books.

The Bible is much better than that film with Robert Powell in, I think it was called Jesus something.

The terry pratchett interpretations on sky were good. But if you had read the books they were far better. The hogfather one a couple if years ago missed loads of scenes characters and dialogue that made the book memorable and funny. The film was a little mixed up and serious at times.

I think you really hit the nail on the head, Diamond - it is probably better to choose between the two as doing both is likely to make you prefer one over the other. And a lot of it is about interpretation.
