How do you get your older teenagers out looking for further education or work . Daughter left school and dived in and got an apprenticeship after a year son in six months still has no clue as to what he wishes to do . I'm at a loss with him to be honest .

I would insist that he gets involved in some form of voluntary work until such time he decides what direction he'd like to follow .....

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

He needs to do something. Learning to sit at home, sleep in late and have no pattern to his day will make him unemployable and going to college a difficult choice if he ever makes it.

A break is fine but making the break your life is a slippery slope. Check he's not depressed, and explain that you are making him do something out of love.

I know people in their 40s who still don't know what they want to do with their lives, but then I know a 17 year old who has their whole life plan mapped out including variables.

I would suggest sit down with them and find out what their passion is, what drives them what do they love? Even if it's playing computer games, help

Them find out what it takes to be a game developer, or gaming journalist, everyone has something they are passionate about, and there will always be a career associated with it, and if they find a career doing something they love, that's half the battle won, and a good basis for a happy life
