little house on the praire

World Mental Health Day was started by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992. It is a unified effort to promote greater public awareness and understanding of mental health and mental illness. Every year, thousands of people across the world raise awareness and funds for mental health causes. Each year, on 10 October, the Mental Health Foundation celebrates the day by raising awareness about mental health and wellbeing.

This day isnt about raising money but to promote awareness of mental health

Still not enough education on the subject in my opinion, lots of ignorance still exists, and lack of agencies working alongside each other leads to people slipping through the net and not getting the help they need, well done Diamonds for bringing this up xxxxx

From my experience theres a whole load of diagnosing of various mental health issues for people at the moment along with lots of different types of "blanket" medications and little or no follow up which is greatly needed

A bigger understanding from various sectors in health and more availability for individual needs is required instead of less which seems to be the case right now

More people are affected than most people even realise so well done Diamond for starting the thread

Totally agree there Honey, Gps are not the best ppl to prescribe some mental health drugs, they can be very slapdash in following up and some of theses medications are very toxic xx

Good one - especially as "mental health" is not a black and white distinction; most people are on a scale of mental health which can vary a great deal according to the amount of support and stress they receive in their life at that moment in time. Sadly there is still a lot of prejudice about the matter.
