apparently the following words are the 12 most sexually offensive words/phrases in today's language. The survey basically asked what words/phrases people were offended by. The most offensive in the survey was Faggot, with 75% saying it was an offensive word. Surprisingly 15% of the people said that the word homosexual is so offensive that it should not be used in conversation at all. What do you guys think? Personally the most offensive sexually word/phrase for me is C**t

It's not the words that are offensive, but the context and intention behind them. It's possible to be completely offensive whilst using the mildest of terms and inoffensive, funny and even alluring when using the strongest terms - at the right time and with the right intention. Having said that, I am often offended by silence ...!

"Ridiculous. I can immediately think of more offensive words. Very strange"

It looks to me as though they asked specifically about words related to sexuality rather than offensive words in general.

I'd vote for slag on the generally offensive words list.

They aren't the most offensive words.

Young people were asked if those 12 words were offensive.

A quote from the article:

Of the 12 words about sexuality which we put to the audience, "faggot" was the one that people found most offensive - 75%.

More than half of people in the survey said they would ask their friends to stop using the word if they heard it.

Just over half surveyed thought the term "lezza" was also offensive.

Many agreed the context in which a word is used is as relevant as the person who is using it.

Not really. Take some time to read up about reclamation of words from their historical usages. Then go call some people niggers.

How I see it is,if you don't like a stranger to call you by a particular word you shouldn't call yourself it. It's very confusing for children to hear these words said and then get warned for saying them themselves. Don't call yourself dyke or nigger if you don't accept others calling you it. The words should not be in modern language anywhere. I call myself fat,I don't cry when someone else calls me it.

I wouldn't personally call myself a dyke in front of a child - random children don't need to know about my sexual activities and preferred lifestyle choices.

But I self identify as a dyke to my friends. Because I fit into a dyke subculture.

It's different if someone calls me it from outside that subculture. They are making assumptions about me, perhaps because of my hair or the way that I dress. Making assumptions about someone and then using words that have previously been insulting to describe them and their sex life isn't acceptable.

Other people use offensive words in front of children. I just think instead of perpetuating them get rid of them. Other adults hear you you say it,they keep saying it and don't care that children hear it. I understand what you're saying about reclaiming words of hatred but I'd rather they disappeared totally.

So what do we do? Just make up a new word?

Myke instead of Dyke?

It's very hard to get new words to be adopted and everyone know what you're talking about. Words changing meaning happens all the time - like the word gay. Gay used to be an insult (and still is - see above) but has been reclaimed by the gay community in order to describe themselves. After a while it became acceptable to describe people as gay if you weren't gay yourself.

Use a word that you don't find offensive so everyone can use it? Or don't label yourselves? People will always use abusive words to call people they want to hurt, don't let names hurt you. When I got fat my husband started calling me a fat doughnut eating cunt,I would laugh at him and say is that all you have? He called me a fat cunt in front of my granddaughters recently, they weren't impressed. I just explained to them he has nothing intelligent to say so he calls me names. It's not so easy explaining to children why some words aren't acceptable, especially not to small children. I know I'm living in an ideal world in my head as film makers and the music industry use a lot of words we don't want children to hear that they can easily come across. We won't eradicate racism or homophobic behaviour but we shouldn't be seen to be condoning it. Just how I would like it to be,that's all.
