I have a 29er inner tubes are a sod to get everywhere sells 26inch ones even the pound shop

The new(ish)and fashionable 29ers are supposed to have advantages over the smaller diameters. But it's like everything else and all about encouraging people to feel they need to upgrade(read--spend more money).

I'm boringly happy with my old unfashionable Rockhopper.

29 if you doing lots of trails .. Rolls faster

27.5 is on trend .. Also more nimble for tech stuff ..

What sort of riding ae you doing? 29er for trails, 27 1/2 if it is more techinical is the theory I think.

But I have also read that 29 will go the way of 650cc wheels on roadbikes, an obsolete and shortlived gimmick

At the mo i have a kona kula supreme (26"), and a vitus with capag 10 speed for road stuff, I'm just making conversion really..

Most of the trails around here are really bi ways, i think they might suit 29 as they arn't what you'd call technical. The road conditions are shocking for riding on though. No money for road repairs it would seem.

Whilst both my full suss bikes are 26", that and 29'ers are a dead end I'm afraid.

27.5"/650b is what the industry have decided upon regardless of what we the consumer actually wants.

Have a look at what the Pro's are using and how many ACTUALLY run 27.5/29"

29 roll faster but won't turn the way a 26" will.

27.5" is just a gimmick and a way of generating a new income line - nothing more.

I don't do much off roading on my bike, mau my trail riding so I try to stick the narrowest tyres I can find I the wheels.

As for the Harry Quinn road bike, Campag CDA groupset and tubular tyres for me.

I agree with this. The industry want it and it'll happen. It makes the transmission obsolete, the frame obsolete - kerching! When 29ers didn't take off this was the next solution.

Same as aero-road bikes. Normal cyclists didn't buy in to concealed brakes and now all of a sudden it's disc brakes that the industry are pushing.

With electronic and/or 11 speed transmissions the limit has potentially been reached so the industry needs to reinvent something else to keep making money

Cyclo cross bike makes the most sense for that sort of riding

currently riding 26 , I like both fast and technical

Am convinced 27.5 is the way forward for me

As illustrated above , people ride differing terrain and want differing experiences

Electric gear shift i hope is a gimmick no one wants , certainly no one needs one but then do I need that £300 seat dropper

Got an old rockhopper,shock still on v brakes!!!! Happy with it on 26", got it cheap 2nd hand apart from new shifters n slicks for when I'm working away cost hardly anything won't be changing anytime soon,got giant cx for road,second hand unused at half price on cantis,but put on 10 speed,happy enough without latest generation gear,just enjoy the ride!

Or own several bikes like I do!

Not convinced about electronic shifting for MTB, considering the amount of times the bike takes a knock its going to be horribly expensive when a rock or twig takes out your rear mech.

TBH I'm not convinced about the current fad for the 'one by' transmission that's all the rage at the moment, sometimes you actually need that lower ratio the granny ring gives you.

I have 3x9 on my XC full suss and 2x9 (+bashguard) on my big full suss, whilst 10 speed is now the standard ive no desire to upgrade til the drivetrain is buggered.

Bikes, both MTB and road are so good now the manufacturers have to create a new demand.

I'm sticking with 26" for as long as possible because I'm so short that clown wheeled bikes won't fit me!
