Train travel options - what would you do?

Milton Keynes

I'm going to Esher at the weekend (non Fab related activity) and there's a couple of options that would get me there.

I can take a train from Milton Keynes through to Clapham Junction before jumping on another train to Esher.

OR

A train into London Euston, the underground to Waterloo, followed by a train through to Esher.

The 2nd option is about 4 quid more but is not quite as restrictive as it's a one day travelcard. Both are the same travel time give or take a few mins.

Are you someone who embraces or avoids Central London and tube travel?

Personally, i'd drive, lol

I had to use the tube when I worked in London.

Hated it. As a result, i'm not a big fan of travelling into or through London.

To be honest, i've never been a big fan of the city anyway

I'd go via the quickest, easiest cost effective route.

Take the first option, check there is no engineering work planned

I'd avoid the tube at any time - weekend or not. So I would go via Clapham. Engineering works could delay the journey - but it will be the same whether you go via Waterloo or Clapham, they are on the same line.

Make sure you have transport at the other end - the station is a fair walk from Esher town..

Have fun!

Embraces it. Love hopping onto a train at MK and being in Central London within an hour. Would not want to live in London as prefer the country but love visiting.

I normally drive most places.

Depending on the distance.

If it's a fair way I'll get the train and get my laptop out.

Laptop + Earphones.

I always book a window seat with a plug socket and table.

That does me fine.

...Up on the Downs

Unless you want to stop off in London for something, avoid, avoid, avoid!

Milton Keynes

I was thinking that I might go into London for a bit afterwards for dinner, but I might be cream crackered by that point anyway and now people have thrown a spanner into the works by suggesting there may be engineering going on!

Might have a rethink!

The tube is great fun, I love it. Do the one with the tube.

Leave plenty of time and you can smirk at all the stressed people while you chill out.

Fucking hate London so my opinion is biased and I will always say "AVOID!".

So it depends entirely on what time of day you're travelling and what you want to see/do along the way.

1st option.

And check the engineering work going on as I know there is some on the west coast mainline

I don't personally mind London or the tubes but trains tubes no issues as I travel on them too dam much for work lol

Euston to Waterloo is easy and quick on the tube and that option seems much more practical to me.
