I saw a tip on a thread recently which was something like pay for the day before and pay for a late checkout or something like that.

Don't know of most allowing free access - have had Intercontinentals let me check in very early, but only one in uk. .

Travelodges allow paid for early access, but not used it.

Day rooms are daytime only bookings, such as 9-6, with no overnight stay, with different rates.

Days Inn. They let you book in during the day.
