Social Class

Having just been informed that I would be better off meeting someone in my own Social Class I was wondering how anyone can tell this just by reading your profile?

Should one hide the Daily Mirror or keep a copy of The Times handy to be sure it is visible in one's avatar?

RSVP darlings, do!

I've met with lots of different people from plumbers to an Eton-educated barrister. Means not a jot to me. They were mostly nice guys capable of holding a conversation.

Class isn't necessarily all about the money. For some it is 'breeding' whatever the fuck that means.

I met someone once on here who had a BRAND NEW bright yellow convertible W12 Bentley.

That's about £200 grand worth of car.

P.S I had no idea of this before we met.

What I'm trying to say is social class has nothing to do with it.

It never ONCE entered the conversation until we met.

I'm underclass. Posh boys won't meet me in case i knife them or mug them.

Seriously, i'm a snob right, but a chavvy snob so although i do have standards, they don't rule anyone out unless they're a cunt. Have met loads of guys higher up than me class wise (it's not hard, almost everyone on here is) still had fun, been able to chat to them etc.

Can't believe someone said that to you, sounds like a right knobhead and i bet having sex with them is shit anyway.

No I think not. Thanks for your comments everyone. The annoying remark was in response to rejection as many of them are. The silver spoon was tossed firmly from the pram in this case. As for class, like everyone here I am in a class of my own.

In the past I have had men say I'm classy. Act appropriately is my modus operandi. When in Rome etc. I'm working class,I like "posh boys",I like electricians,I like men with Masters degrees,PhDs,O Levels ,GCSEs,nothing but life skills. Class is irrelevant when you're in bed naked.

I was always labelled the posh one with loads of money at school because we had a house with land etc. We were far from rich or posh but that was my friends impression but they loved sleep overs as they could ride a horse etc. I've met every class of people and I wouldn't say I'm in any particular social class presently..

I think it was more an issue of whether it may be a stumbling block to get to that bit!

If I'm honest I'd choose not to have sex with the kind of people featured on some recent Channel 4/5 documentaries who I'd say lack any kind of class.

I'll never understand our obsession with class. It's transmogrified from being upstairs/downstairs in nature to just unadulterated nepotism.

But it's always funny seeing how many people think of themselves as middle class.

If you're well mannered and adaptable in social situations then I think you can be classless and forget the whole nonsense notion of class.

Don't they?

Seems to me in the past century a US class system has emerged, not dissimilar to our own.

Money and assets held by a few and passed on to their offspring!

The US isn't as egalitarian as it once was.

Most of that list are almost universally derided for it though, certainly the yummy mummies, MIC and the Bullingdon Club. And Downton isn't just popular for the posh characters. And the Brit Pack actors have done well by being good actors, who happen to be from posh backgrounds, I don't think it's been the reason for their success.

On your original point, could I ask why you think it's funny so many people call themselves middle class? They're all outdated definitions anyway, but that's where I'd categorise most of the population.

I don't think nepotism is confined to the upper classes. Try and sell your dodgy TVs on my council estate if you don't belong to the right family and you will find your stock in the canal!!! "

I'd say that's more territorialism than nepotism.

"I'll never understand our obsession with class. It's transmogrified from being upstairs/downstairs in nature to just unadulterated nepotism.

But it's always funny seeing how many people think of themselves as middle class.

If you're well mannered and adaptable in social situations then I think you can be classless and forget the whole nonsense notion of class.

I see far more people claiming not to be middle class who clearly are, it's like it's become some sort of insult.

Really? With all the 'proud to be posh' nonsense we've had in recent years I'd say the opposite.

I was thinking of the Jamie Oliver Guy Ritchie mockney type stuff, and people being desperate to big up their 'authentic' working class credentials.

I must have missed the proud to be posh bit

Its largely the same with the whole rap/hop hop scene, guys and women who LOVE to go on about where they came from, how they started with nothing, way way below the 'average' person, and now they have so much more after how heroically, defiantly they climbed the ladder of success to fame, riches and glory.

It's good for the old ego.

That has nothing to do with the pillars of hip hop...

That's just pop music copying hip hop.

Really? Why do you think that bragging about your wealth, being covered in gold and jewels, top designer fashions and having a garage full of sports cars attached to your Beverley Hills mansion features so heavily at the top of the scene?"

Does it? You'll be on about the shite on the radio and television.....pop music.

It srays heavily from hop hops foundations by the sounds of it.

I've got music here by several hundred artists probably.....not one of them goes down that road.....

Alright fair enough, perhaps many hip hop musicians simply do it for the love of the music, and have little to no interest in the money and fame aspect of the business. Perhaps the reason why the kind of rappers I'm referring to become so commercial and well know is simply because they HAVE those huge, hungry egos and personas that demand attention and respect from those around them, and they choose music as a means to realise those goals, rather than simply for the love of a good beat.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

My favourite social class quote of the last ten years has to be from the young women John Prescott interviewed on his little series about class.

He asked them if they were working class. Their response was "no, we don't work".

"The USA doesn't have a class system like ours and look at the problems they have

Don't they?

Seems to me in the past century a US class system has emerged, not dissimilar to our own.

Money and assets held by a few and passed on to their offspring!

The US isn't as egalitarian as it once was. "

its a system based on money, not breeding

Tell that to the Mayflower lot or even the Daughters of the Confederacy.

"I have pictures of me in my orangery so I think people will work out that I'm working class through and through

Orangeery - lean to greenhouse made wi' with bricks

You've obviously never seen an orangery then

Mi mate has one.....glass and brick thing stuck on the side of his house.

No orange trees in it either "

Sounds like a lean to

I agree....many do 'sell out' (i would too....I ain't gonna hear the complaints from inside my soundproofed rolls royce) and stray into the popular charts...your snoops and dre's and fifty pences etc.. but to me.....they stray away into pop...rather than being true hip hop.....

I know what you mean when you site those particular artists you see in the charts these days, but money bitches and bling have never been and never will be one of the elements of hop hop....

Anyhow...that's me just getting defensive over my love of the music and steering the thread up a different path....

That's my fifty cents worth
