I just find it weird! To me, being called babe is the same as being called 'munch'... They were both names that I was called as a child..! If somebody messaged me saying "hey munch" I'd probably be scarred for life! And 'hungry Horace'... That would be beyond weird...

I still get called it though...

I suppose people do it as they don't actually know our real names, let's face it no one is going to send you a message starting with the words " To whome it may concern"

No wonder so many people send generic cut and paste messages....

It's an absolute minefield trying to say anything to folk on here it seems....

You must say this and you mustn't call me that and I don't like such and such...

You go to start a message and think 'what if she doesn't like this, or wants that or what if this pisses her off'

You's have all created an environment where it feels like walking on eggshells just to say hello to someone then moan like fuck when they take the safe middle ground.....

Seems perfectly reasonable .

I got a guy comes into the shop; calls me treacle, I'm guessing 'cause I'm a ging .. One that calls me ducky. ..actually I like it. Obviously I have to call everybody Sir but then some times they'll say " please call me bob" or jim or Dave.

..... "Beautiful ".. Is reserved for the girl that makes my coffee in the coffee shop or "handsome" if it's a fella. They are very important people, and if you butter them up they double stamp your loyalty card

Don't call me baby

When she is waiting in the car

It took so long to get this far

Don't call me baby

You said forever

And then you went and changed your plans

You said that someday I would understand

But I still wonder

I wonder why we are not walking

And fighting and asking for favours

Meeting at midnight

While avoiding all the neighbours

Time is a distance that you can't retract by miles

If I saw you again I'd smile

But I'd say

Don't call me baby

When she is waiting in the car

It took so long to get this far

Don't call me baby

I think she's pretty

And I think that you have done quite well

I still say you can never tell

I wouldn't be surprised

You'll never know

We could be walking

And fighting and asking for favours

Meeting at midnight

While avoiding all the neighbours

Time is a distance that you can't retract by miles

If I saw you again I'd smile

But I'd say

Don't call me baby

Not keen on the pet names myself, but some of the old northern ones have a certain charm. Ages since I heard anyone in Newcastle say 'pet lamb'. Something quaint about it...more used in humour these days I think
