I understand these shops have rules and regulations about no children being allowed in the premises but its hardly a dangerous environment. Ones i have been in just have newspapers on the walls, and tv's with the races.. nothing offensive that would possibly harm a child in anyway.

Id rather a child be in that environment than a pub with d*unks etc.

Just seen a few comments on social media where adults were turned away because they had a toddler/baby with them.

Its a betting shop, no under 18s. Why would someone want to take a child into a betting shop.

Pubs (well some) have children's areas and are designated family pubs.

What would a child do in a betting shop.

Some take there betting seriously and wouldn't want kids running around in there

it was just a case of a guy (single parent) wanted to place a bet, he wasn't gonna stick around was just for the national.

i know they have the age limit of no under 18's but the environment is hardly offensive or harmful.

id not expect a child to be playing on the floor etc

The reason children are not allowed in betting shops is because the gambling commission have a policy that all staff must follow to protect vulnerable adults and children and exposing them to gambling isn't a great start in life, the language used in bookies is horrific when you've got grown men shooting obscenities at a machine or a TV screen I would expose my children to it! I once worked at a bookies for a while and sometimes I would cringe, there is absolutely nothing for a child to do in a betting shop and who wants kids running round somewhere there nothing for them to do? The people who really make me sick are the ones who leave kiddies outside in prams or with their faces pressed against the window, we refused to serve these people. For what it's worth I don't like kids in pubs either.

Fuck civilised society, let's ignore quite valid rules and regulations and live by what social media wants.

Yeah, anarchy for the win.

I'll now extract my tongue thanks very much.

Well, it were like this Dr, a bit of gambling didn't do her any harm so i thought well, i'll just try a roll up or too. Then some . No further harm came to pass so i thought it's time for her to try some Amber nectar, lovely she said it was too.

What i want to know Dr, will my little princess still be compis mentis enough to start primary school?

Betting is readily available (at better odds and paying out more places) online , on national day you can be queuing in a shop for a while, a child has no place in a betting shop especially when there are so many other ways to bet. A child would probably get trampled on in a busy shop on a day like that, people run up at the off on dog races and won't look down to see if they're gonna trip up over somes kid.

Fowl language is not allowed in bookies I have seen people thrown out Because of there language swearing at a machine or such,

It never used to be a place for children with the smoke and the gambling but someone just nipping in to put a quick bet on surely they could give them a five minute window, in place bet out, that's not harmful to a child, it's something I don't understand when children are allowed to both horse and dog tracks

Precisely, rules and regulations are there for good reason, the good of all.

Does anyone not see that the real problem is, wait for it, Gambling.

Many a time you often hear of "Oh i won £170 on the National, I won £200 on McIlroy each way in the Masters."

How often do you hear of "Oh, we lost the house, the mothers been hitting the bottle, and the kids are to be taken into care" because of gambling?

And you want to teach vulnerable young children that this is an acceptable way of life?

There is no rule regarding foul language in a licensed betting office, it's down to the staff...do you think a lone worker (they nearly all have lone working policies now) wants to go out from behind the counter and tell a group of 5 6ft lads that they can't swear? I know I wouldn't! You'll regularly get big groups of known trouble causers crowding the machines screaming and swearing, plus with the industry comes a lot of anger...try standing watching a bloke put a chair through each of your 4 gaming machines before starting on your video wall and tell me you'd let a child in there then? It's a scary place to be for an adult. Also you'd likely be sacked from a big company for kicking out a spending customer for swearing.

In extreme circumstances..

Children are allowed in pubs which to me can at times be a worse premises to be in.

I agree with you that gambling addiction isnt healthy but you can buy a lottery ticket/scratch card at a supermarket etc. Sadly i a person will become addicted they will find a way to do it regardless.

Do you not drink alcohol? You could say the same about that but children are allowed in pubs, not everyone who gambles has a gambling issue, there are millions of people who just bet once a year on the national, and have for many years, and yes I have taken my kids lo a racecourse and thought them everything go moderation, same with drinking letting my 17 year old daughter have a couple of vodkas every now again isn't going to make her an alchy

I was allowed drink at a very young age.

Drink holds no appeal now.

I do in moderation.

All what you say is quite proper and good parenting, within the existing framework of rules and regulations.

Would all those occasions have been so enjoyable had there been a total free for all within society?
