What do you do to relax?

I'm in the midst of dissertation and essay hell, and I've got exams coming at me imminently. What do you do to relax when things all get a little bit hectic? (Apart from sex, that one's a given!!)

Any suggestions welcome, I'm frantic here!!!

I love just lying on my back, focusing my attention on a single point....eg., a big tree while I lie on the grass. Then breathe deeply...maintaining my focus on that tree...as I breath in....and out.....and if my thoughts drift off AI just bring my focus back to the tree..... Deeply relaxing and great for the spirit

Turn off the gadgets, and do some craft work in my studio, whether it's drawing, model making etc, it just helps filter out the stresses for a short time.

Failing that, rum and ...

Thanks - it feels so insummountable and terrifying, and if someone hasn't been through it, they can't understand! Best of luck for her... and I'm trying to not eat my feelings... seems to be working thus far...

Do you know what - engaging a different part of my brain sounds like an amazing idea. I ended up going with my mum to a different part of town, and changed my scene a bit, and did a bit of walking (no mountains though!)... Thank you everyone for your lovely tips and suggestions!

Hey OP,

Fellow student here, I handed my diss in 2 weeks ago, so 100% understand what's going on right now!

Here's a few things that worked for me..

- I found that planning my next day helped me to relax at night before bed to stop me thinking/worrying about what I was to be doing the next day.

- I took time out when needed, although it seems backwards to do this when you will have so much to do.. It's important to chill and have some down time.

- and, talk to people, (like you have done here!). Bottling things up never works out good at all, speak to course mates, tutors etc, who will understand your thoughts and feelings more than other. However, I guess friends outside of uni are just as valuable as they help to take your mind of things when needed.

Hope this helps! I wish you all the best on getting your diss all finished and with your exams, it'll soon be time to graduate!

Feel free to pm me if ou need a student-to-student convo! X

When I was doing mine I used aromatherapy at night - I found this lavender stuff you roll on your pillow to help your brain relax for sleep.

Or try downloading a meditation hypnosis thingy to listen to?

Maybe going down to your local old folks home and asking if they need any help !!

When you see people a lot worse than you...it puts your problems in perspective.....

And chatting to oldies is relaxing !!
