Kevin Spacey

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Kevin Spacey Fowler got the Olivier Lifetime Achievement Award.

I think he is our greatest living actor, having seen him on film, television and stage.

What do you think and does he have a rival for the title of greatest living actor?

Wasn't a very good actor when he was interviewed after that occasion when he was walking his er dog.

Great in the usual suspects though and excellent theatre producer

Does he have to be in acting mode in areas of his life?

I think Spacey beats him. However, I haven't seen Pacino on stage.

One of the things for me is the range of characters Spacey has covered. Even the shrug on the airline commercial shows his talent.

Spacey is also an excellent impressionist and does a mean Pacino.

To call him the greatest actor is pushing it, he doesn't have a great range of roles. He has had some great parts but essentially plays Kevin Spacey.

He couldn't play the range of roles somebody like Russell Crowe (whom I despise) can play

In my opinion Leonardo Di Caprio is just as good

Titz Towers, North Notts

He's certainly got talent. I like Patrick Stewart his scene in Tinker Tailor, where he acts without opening his mouth is extremely good.

I suppose a big question would be how one defines acting? Ok, so I suppose it general it's how convincingly you can play a given role, but is that a matter of your range, as in how different are these roles from one another, or is it that you only have perhaps one role/style you play in anything, but do it exceptionally well?

I think Gary Oldman is one of the greatest actors. He can and has played so many roles that are almost unrecognizable from each other. Consider him in Leon, Batman, fifth element, Harry Potter, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy etc.

And of course Dracula, perhaps THEE most convincingly portrayal of a vampire I've ever seen in film.

Lets not forget Tim Roth either.

Certainly in the top five imo but greatest living I think has to be Anthony Hopkins

I think you have to go a long way to beat Paul Whitehouse. He had me going from hysterical laughter to tears in seconds, and he never even said a word. He just cast his eyes down, then looked directly at the camera with a look of such sadness and regret, nobody else could have done it.

A truly great actor that doesn't get enough recognition because he isn't Hollywood enough is Timothy Spall

A great range from auf weidersen, frank Stubbs, britains fattest man and Turner.

Living actor... Orson Welles was one of the very best but as he's been dead for 30 years I don't think he'll be picking up a current Olivier award.

He is another superb actor, but, because he's an ugly fucker he doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

I was speaking to an actor recently who said that he would always say yes to anything that had Spall already signed up as the quality of writing and performance is guaranteed.
