Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

After the success of Team GB cycling at the 2012 Olympics I had a look at the 1% improvement method they used.

I've been trying to apply it to my life for the last year and it has reaped its own rewards.

What area of your life would you improve by just 1%?

Money management. I manage money/ funding well at work but can't seem to do the same with my own. I have no savings. Lol. I have no money.

I have opened an ISA and am (this was the first month) depositing £80 a month into it.

little house on the praire

With hard work and determination my life has improved by about 90% in the last couple of years, mentally and physically, the most happiest and content I've ever been. Still got about 10% to go which includes travelling and doing more things on my own.

Any marginal gains made at my age would surely be cancelled out by natural erosion......

I'd just be happy treading water....

Central

I like to follow the Pareto principle, 80% of our results come from 20% of our efforts. It's been researched as valid across much of life. Achieve your 80%, then look how to achieve the next 80% with just 20% of your efforts.

With the 1% aggregate gain, if you increased by 1% each day, performance, or whatever, you would double your output in 70 days, which is stunning. obviously you can selectively increase many different things 1% each time, the choice is ours.

I'd possibly use 1% for beauty care. I don't believe the outrageous claims from lotion sellers, but could care for my skin etc better.

It's worthwhile keeping track of your 1% gains, as they may not seem significant, when the aggregate total really is.

I have so many things that I could improve.

1% don't cut the mustard.

It's a start and from nothing it's a huge start. Well done.

If you keep treading water that may in itself be your improvement. Doing nothing lets the rust set in.

That's exactly what I have been doing. Reflecting back on it all I was surprised to see just how much has changed.
