Maximum benefits

If the average wage is say, £300 per week then the total maximum benefit should be the same, or just below.

People on low wages should get benefits to take them to the "average wage"

People who don't, or wont work through choice, should not get equal benefits to people who work.

People who can't work should get benefits up to average wage.

People who work, and thereby contribute to the economy should be rewarded moreso than the scroungers

Up North :-)

I would make sure if someone is working they are Guaranteed of taking home more money. People should be rewarded in my book.

I finished work in march and as of now i havent claimed a penny off the state.

Though i have been told off for not doing so...

I cant seem to rush for the measly £65 per week they wanna give me.

And ive worked since i was 15yr old.

I cant work any more and i bloody hate it.

Bradford

The economic news includes a proposal to cap total benefits at £26,000 being the average total income ( not just salray/wages )

It's a start.

I've just had to go on benefits due to splitting up with Hubby, as I am unable to work because of health reasons I will be getting ESA which is paid at the same rate as JSA, the government say that this payment of £65 per week is enough for a single person to live on, not all of my rent is paid for me so I have to top it up out of my benefit, so lets see how it works,

Rent top up £10.00

Gas, Electric, water £21.75

Food and shopping £25.00

TV licence £ 3.00

Internet and phone £ 6.25

Contents and life insurance £ 5.60

Total £71.60

Obviously the Government must be right, as you can see.

Ive been off work long term with depression(im type 2 bipolar) as from august i had to apply for ESA as work did not pay full sick pay after a certain amount of time. Having to go to the job centre and hand in sick notes and go for interviews about when i would be fit for normal work, i could see people who were desperate to get work and back to work but being told they maybe OVER QUALIFIED for that position. Hardly an incentive to get people back to work and support them with extra benefits. Especially when next to them chav and shel suit were happy to take handouts and openly admit they go on holidays abroad and nights out all the time!

I lost my job after 10 years 3 weeks ago. I signed on, I had no choice. My family are not in a position to help out, although my friends have been absolute stars.

Yesterday, I went for my first signing on. I was told because I have a job interview today in Stevenage, they can help with the travel cost. So I'm in a queue to get a little voucher. There is a guy behind me, bragging, very loudly, within 3ft of the staff, that he is getting his 3rd crisis loan this month. He won't have to pay it back because he is unemployed. And has been working cash in hand for the last 10 years.

Yet I'm made to feel shit because I lost my job.

You should have reported him. It is the duty of every honest citizen to report those abusing the system in this shameful way. If a rogue salesman came to your house trying to flog you stolen household items you would report him without even thinking about it and benefit cheats are no different - they are stealing from every honest taxpayer.

it is too easy to be signed off too sick to work thats the problem. I have been working for the last 24 years and studying to improve my carear. I have clincal depression that i am not ashamed of saying, it can and is being controlled by the right medication but any doctor would sign me off work for 6 months. There is always something u can do for a job unless u are very ill.

As ive said before, i work for a housing association so i see quite a lot of people who scrounge and those that dont. For example, the woman in the forest we moved from a 2 to a 3 bed house because she now has 5 kids, pregnant again; she and boyfriend dont work and probably couldnt afford to. The couple that came in for an inteview and he said, so what are you going to give me for nothing??? Claims disability benefits has a mobility car but fit as a fiddle. And ive many other stories like that.

On the other hand, theres the girl with morquio syndrome, permanently in a wheelchair that works part time, the tenants who work and pay full rent and are in credit.

Lets not for get though those that claim benefits and deal drugs, drive nice cars, £1000 decking etc etc, not fair is it when some of us have to do 2 jobs to keep afloat

sorry to post again but have strong opinions on this subject .

My nephew has

Cerebal palsay

Epelepsy

Autism

He cant/ cook/ clean /dress himself has no understanding of money and can,t read or write. He can,t cross over roads on his own and can only walk about 100 yards before stopping because of the tightness of his tendons due to his condition.

Is he happy ?? You bet he is a cracking lad .

He doesn,t get the high rate of disability yet the scroungers up the road have a shiney car and go on holiday every year . Oh and yes they carry their own suitcases. Typical

So glad you can say your not ashamed of having clinical depression. A lot of people have some form of mental illness at some stage in their life and its only by telling others and not feeling ashamed about it that helps people understand. I have bipolar type 2. It was only recently diagnosed correctly. I been on and off medication for 20 year. Mainly my fault cos i didnt want to be seen as different and partly cos doctors couldnt diagnose it properly due to me hiding everything at consultations as i wanted to seem 'normal'. but now i just think stuff what others think and want to get on with my life rather than make my self suffer. Medication controlling it along with CBT and regular consultations. And now i understand myself im starting to find confidence i never knew i had. I may be 36 but im catching up with missed years. Im out of the MI closet and proud! Lol

I said something to the staff at the desk when I got my voucher.

The reply

Its not our place to judge.

No, but you can look down your nose at me, because I couldn't afford the £40 train journey for an interview.

It's a poor system that passes the buck and turns a blind eye to blatant abuse. Write to your local MP and tell him/her what you experienced. Don't let it slide as it's the kind of apathy you experienced first hand that allows this sort of thing to continue and no amount of posturing by ministers in parliament can effect changes if these useless bureaucrats on the front line continue to turn a blind eye.

I know we all moan about "big brother" etc and people watching everything we do..apparantly .

But its down to every taxpayer and honest person to bloody report people who claim when they shouldnt.

Why the hell should they get away with it ?

And yes..it is OUR buisness .

Its our bloody money going towards their fags, beer and holidays etc.

Maybe...just maybe ... they wont be so cocky if they think even more people are gonna dob them in.

Quite agree. Many people feel intimidated at prospect of reporting someone in case of reprisal. I reported a neighbour who constantly played his music so loud that the whole street could hear it day and night whether his window was closed or not. Couldnt even open my windowd on summer cos of noise. And could hear it over tv at night. Sometimes going on til 2am.

Eventually after ignoring all streets complaints made to him i asked everybody if they wanted to report his anti social behaviour and loud music to council( he was also having gangs of hoodys drinking at front of house at all hours. But nobody wanted to because they were to scared in case he found out. Understandable i know. But i went ahead with it and council compiled enough evidence to remove his music equipment. And a few months later was evicted for severe anti social behaviour.

Do i feel guilty? Does it make me a bad person for what happened to him? NO! Im worried about my family and friends not his free loading cock sure despicable behaviour.

I do feel for you - and it does show that not every situation is the same - and it is easy to judge somebody without knowing all the circumstances, for example if you have a long term illness which is not clearly visible to others.
