"Hope not....but is it possible he is being bullied?" We've a good understanding about bullying and he would definitely tell me. So I know it's not that though it was my first thought

"Just wondered if my son who is 12 is just going through teenage stages or if there's an issue with him. He is sleeping the clock around lately and the suggestion of going outside is like I've told him the most devastating news ever. Is this a phase or should I be worried about his health?" Monitor his habits and general health without him knowing or being overbearing. He just might be doing something during the night .. computer, phone, t.v etc. It's pretty normal for them to want to sleep but never pass it off as that if you think it's excessive. There can be other causes that should be caught early. If he can get up for school/to meet mates or have good times then he's fine. One of mine never budged but as soon as something interesting was going on they could get up and ready in a blink.

"Personally, I would take him to the doctor asap. Excessive sleep can be indicative of depression, as well as mononucleosis and various other problems. Doctor and blood tests right away. " thanks

"It could be a typical teenager phase or I don't want to alarm you he could be getting bullied my oldest son didn't like going outside much when he was 12 years old like you said when mentioned going out side he wouldn't go out sleeping most of the holidays ( we found out he was scared incase he bumped into the bully ) it was only a few months later we found out he was getting bullied I really hope he isn't as its a horrible thing to go threw.Talk to him Fingers crossed its nothing x" I've looked into this already and it's definitely not bullying, thanks for the advice xx

"To be honest all I remember about being 12 was trying to find my big brothers Razzle stash to wank with. If I had the internet in 1985 I would have been up all night masturbating my fecking brains out. The urge is strong when youre 12." oh god I can't even think about him doing that.

As the mother of 3 lads,I'd have been concerned if one of them hadn't wanted to go outside for a period of time . . I'm presuming he has mates in the area. . Do they knock ? X

X" yeah he's a popular lad but we do live a fair distance from his mates but they do knock on for him and he'll force himself to go out and is happy once he's out. I think it probably is puberty but will take him to see doc just to put my mind at ease.

"Update on son All is normal with him according to doc, blood tests done to keep my mind at peace. On the other hand I may need to invest in alcohol shares to survive this stage of his life." Good luck. We tend to do things with the teenager in the evenings when he suddenly becomes talkative again for about half an hour before returning to his room and whatever happens in there.
