For me it has to be Bon Scott. Ok some songs are better with Brian's voice, but Bon was more flexible and his lyrics were in a league of their own.

I guess the telling bit is that I have all the early AC/DC albums featuring Bon Scott, but would only bother collecting some of the individual tracks from Brian's era.

Bon Scott. I just prefer the tunes they made back then when he was lead. They became a bit of a caricature of themselves with Johnson.

Bon Scott was one of the most charismatic front men ever to grace the stage and his voice so unique it could never be mistaken for anyone else....

I've been lucky enough to see both guys front AC/DC....

I also can lay claim to have seen Brian front Geordie back in the day...

But the chemistry between Bon and Angus is for me what made AC/DC so special ....

Brian is a great replacement and probably the only guy capable of filling the slot.... but he's not Bon....

This is one of those arguments that could go on forever. Very much like the Sammy vs Dave arguments Van Halen fans have.

I love Bonn, but Brian is quite frankly also awesome.

Gary Holton. Although he died in 1985 so it could have all been very different of he'd said yes. Would they still be around now!?

AC/DC was my first ever gig at the Queen's Hall in Derby in 1977. Have only seen them with Bon that time, but think had he still been around the band would have taken a slightly different musical route.

Having said that I've seen them 4 times with Brian and still love 'em

After Highway to Hell, AC/DC could have released an album of nursery rhymes and their career would have gone through the roof. They were already playing arenas in the UK and were making massive inroads in America!

How can you ask this question, I was late coming to the ac/dc party (I was born in 1972) so I don't look at them as 2 eras I look at them as a band that have a back catalogue of awesome music with differing styles, they are one band, no mater who is being rude up front lol

Why can't you sit on the fence? I like both, but most of my favourite tracks are the early ones. More of an iconic sound when they were younger.

I still love the same tracks with Johnson singing them.

Bon Scott, hands down, although the first couple of albums Brian did were great. He just sounds like Donald Duck now.

What wouldn't I give to hear "Back In Black" sung by Bon...and you know they had that album almost in the bag when Bon died, there HAD to have been demos around (which probably were destroyed by the management). At the very least, I'd say they were Bon's lyrics, not Brian Johnson's, Brian isn't exactly a prolific writer.

Bon's son has said his father was on his way out of the band when he died, namely because his list of criminal convictions was making it hard to get visas to tour certain countries.

One day I hope the true story will come out about his death - Paul Chapman and Pete Way's version is at odds with the official line, and I can't see what they gain from making it up.

On a brighter note, Angus was 60 last week! Anyone in the entertainment business who regularly gets into a school uniform and hasn't had an Operation Yewtree visit, can't be all bad, can he? (Ooh, that made me think about Bon's lyrics to "Little Lover" - now they are seriously DODGY!!!!)

Bon Scott made them what they are.

It's a bit like the jam, if you've ever heard them without weller - you realize how good the songs are. Your granny could be singing them + they're still great.

But I was not impressed by how fast they replaced Bon Scott - a few months if I remember.

yeah.the crazy schoolkid + guitar is brilliant. all the riffs,with that bass - top sounds

but..

i'm a rocker, roller,

right -out-of-controller.

wheeler, dealer,

i'm a wicked woman stealer.

BS lyrics + that voice, are what sets them apart for me.

i reckon youre right though - angus certainly calls the shots.

but ac/d - up to 80. compared with ac/dc after 80? one change and no more great songs

(some peeps think B-in-B was Bons song, +they certainly pulled that rabbit out the hat quick, dont think we will ever know the full truth about that)
