On another thread started by someone about tattoos I asked if foot tattoos hurt as I've thinking for ages about getting a big one on foot going up my leg a bit.two people kindly answered ...one saying it hurts one saying it doesn't . So just asking all you.lovely ladies who have one for any advice .

It does vary between people.....but to the best of my knowledge yes, it's quite high up the pain scale of tattoos apparently.

I am heavily tattooed and have to say one of the most painful places was my foot. But everyone's pain threshold is different. Lining can be less painful than having colour or shading.

Every tattoo hurts a bit x

I'm heavily covered on many parts of my body and found getting my feet done was extremely painful, and for several days after the swelling made it painful too.

First foot i got done naturally and the other foot i had numbing cream on it an hour before, which helped a lot and made it more bearable and there wasn't really any swelling so that was good, but it still hurt getting it done.

I have a largish tattoo on my foot, took 2 hours to complete. The actual tattooing wasn't painful, but my foot was rather swollen for a couple of days after and that was more painful, didn't help that two of my children managed to stand on it whilst it was healing and took two scabs off so really need some more colour work done.

I have part on my right foot that goes up my leg and one on my left foot (both on my pics here - I'll just go unhide myself so you can see) I didn't think they hurt that much, my tummy piece killed though

I had the top of my foot tattooed in January 2014 (there's a pic in our public gallery). I can honestly say that the pain was pretty nasty whilst having it done - very tender indeed - but it was the pain afterwards that was excruciating. I couldn't get a shoe on for five weeks, and the swelling finally subsided six weeks after it was tattooed.

My advice would be to think carefully about what you've got coming up in the weeks after tattooing. If at all possible, take time off work, at least a couple of weeks.

As others have said, it does vary from person to person. Also, mine was done in one sitting - it may be worth considering getting the outline work done first then going back for any colour/shading you want. Just my opinion. Feel free to message me if you'd like to chat more about it.

My mum has a foot tattoo - don't forget that hey wear off in this area because the skin renews much more often. And shoes etc rub.

To the OP,

Got to a large pharmacy and ask for a cream called EMLA. This is one of the best numbing creams available and is primarily designed for people with a fear of injections. When you buy it don't them it's for a tattoo, tell them your going on holiday and having immunisation jabs.

You need to apply it approx 1 hour before your appointment and then wrap the whole area up in cling film. This will dramatically reduce the pain sensation you'd normally feel

Tattoos hurt. End of. Getting them removed hurts even more.

So whatever you get. Make sure you are happy with it for life, or then you will know what real pain is

Yes it did hurt but if you want it enough then you do it and get through it. I found nearer the toes hurt more and made my foot shake a little. They stopped every few seconds so it was ok, if a bit timely.

My tattoo is on the side of my foot and onto my ankle. I do love it so I know it's right for me. Looks nice in stroppy sandals

All tattoos hurt, the only thing that differs is on who and where.

Everyones pain threshold is different, no nerve endings are in the exact same place on each person.

People will say the elbow hurts the most, well on me it didn't hurt at all, the killer was the inside of the wrist across my artery.

People are different and so will the pain you experience be when getting one

I have never found this and I have had my foot tattoo for about 8 years. I did have it recoloured a little but only because I take care of it and I want it to remain looking good. I also put sun cream on it religiously and put a towel over my foot if I've ever sunbathed.

Maybe they do wear off on some people or maybe it's down to the quality of the ink. I personally,have never found it but I would always suggest going to a good tattooist and pay a decent amount of money for it.

Tattoo's need care and attention, my arm always goes under a sports bandage when in the sun for a prolonged period and is moisturized once a day, my leg also and why 20 years on my leg is still black and not grey looking due to sun bleach

thank you I have 18 tattoos and lo e them all. None of them hurt but was worried foot one would.

My mums is fine on the top part of her food, but around the inch or so at the bottom of the foot it wears off and has to be reapplied every few years. Same reason they don't suggest getting the sole of your foot or the palm of your hand tattooed.

She's had it done at several different salons, so it's not like it's just a rubbish tattoo artists.

(Because on the other hand, I have ink by a rubbish tattoo artist, and the fucking thing won't go...)

Speak to your tattooist before you use any numbing creams - it makes it feel different for them, some won't be very pleased if you do it. Others will encourage it and some even have stronger ones!

Different tattooists are sorer than others as well, I've had a traditionally sore bit be no bother and an easy bit be agony based on who's doing it.

Oh and when you do go - don't drink the night before, have a good meal & take lots of sugar in with you

DONT use numbing cream!!!!!!!! Course it hurts you're getting jabbed with a needle hundreds of times anybody who says tattoos don't hurt are lying. The scale of pain differs but its the price you pay for wanting a tattoo just erm...... "Deal with it" is the best advice

I have tattoos on both feet. They are both on the tops of my feet. Not at the side where I do think they wear away a bit easier/quicker.

One is an outline and not filled in and that didn't hurt at all.

My other foot has writing and colour and in places it did sting quite a bit but overall it wasn't too bad.

I'm looking forward to adding to my feet, I think there's something really beautiful about foot tattoos.

I've got one on the top of my foot. It did hurt more than my other two, but only really near the far edge/little toe, but guess there isn't much padding there. It was still bearable though x

I only have one tattoo and it's on the front of my foot. Took about 45 mins and has colour. It wasn't painful for me and it didn't hurt after either. The best way I could describe it is like scratching. It felt a bit hot at certain points but not that uncomfortable. I was pretty nervous too. Healed well. I'd love another. Everyone is different.

I use a complete sunblock on my tattoo and I cover my tattoo with a towel if I'm lying on a sunbed on the beach etc.

I don't worry too much about

my tattooed foot being paler because there is a brilliant invention now to stop it looking odd - it's called fake tan.

Yes I do, my sleeve took 36 hours and cost 2.5k ..... It has very bright colours that I don't want bleached by the sun, I do what I can to protect it.

Why would I wear a long sleeve shirt? I would get no tan at all on my torso

my daughter is a wimp and she had her first tat on wrist she said it wasn't too bad x
