Spent this weekend clearing the wreckage that purported to be a garden fence until the heavy winds hit over the last month or so. Surreptitiously hiding behind overgrown ivy, honeysuckle and climbing hydrangeas it looks you into a false sense of security. Once blown down by the wind the aftermath is more like the nightmares caused as a child by one of Grimm's fairy tales. With hairy ivy trunks the size of small trees, threatening to envelop and bind you as it had bound the poor fence panels against their will. Thrusting the hairy stems through the cracks between the timber planks making it impossible to remove them with ease. Hacking, lopping, sawing and beating them with mallets and hammers didn't daunt these archaic beastly plants as they seemed to fight back at every move. Eventually after hours of toil and sweat they were removed along with the pillaged panels and planks and whisked away in the back of my car or should I say motorisrd gareden skip. Step one completed....step two in a bit....

Are their any jobs you wished you hadn't started but once you have started you will not be beaten until they are finished?

Taking all my nets down at once and starting the cleaning of the windows. Two hours in,totally shattered and not even half done. I'll own up to putting nets back up an uncleaned window and going back to it the next day.

Gave up on nets years ago. Just dust gathering frilly things. Cleaning the windows - now that is a thankless task. No sooner done a bird shits on them

Make up drawer. It needs a sort but took me a solid 5 hours last time (although I did keep getting distracted by lipsticks I'd forgotten about).

So onto episode 2. With garden detritus cleared I move onto slotting 6" fence panels into the slots created by existing concrete posts. "Can't be too difficult " Methinks.

Well f**k my old brown boots I kid you not, it was fookin impossible. With the help of my 6'1" son I thought this would be a simple task. Oh no! The neighbours fookin tree roots had conspired to move the immovable concrete posts so none of the panels fit..

There we were with 6' panels waving in the air above our heads only to find only one out of 6 would fit

By this time my arms are falling off and I've turned the air blue with expletives....
