For you, how fat is too fat?

In the interest of correctly balanced opinions of course.

For me I had got too fat when got to the point where I felt uncomfortable, miserable, embarrassed about how I looked.

Some very overweight people are happy, healthy and content.

Fat or thin I think when it affects your health something needs to be done.

The BMI of anyone that is BBW is going to be obese or even morbidly obese in some cases...guess they don't think about their future health though...the only person that can change it is the person concerned...but when you have websites like this promoting big being beautiful IMO something is wrong..

My BMI is 31 which makes me obese, I'm in no way slim but I like to think I'm not obese, just sturdy! BMI is not a great measure.

I don't think this site promotes big being beautiful. Some men express that they like bigger women as their preference (whether honest or not) but take a look at, for example, the most fabbed photos and you don't see much 'promotion' there.

And if we're just going off BMI then yeah I should probably be chained to the treadmill and fed only water for the next 6 months. God forbid I might post photos "celebrating" obesity.

For me, when I started getting lower back pain that I'm fairly sure was related to weighing too much and not moving enough. I have more that I want to lose, but it's not going to be influenced by anyone else's _iew of me.

My BMI is well above Healthy.. yet I do step several times a week. I swim a few times too. Have physio regime that I do daily and my blood pressure and general health is really good.

I am losing weight because I Struggle with others perception of me, and am currently not happy. and I want some clothing that would really not be flattering at my current size.

I would love to have the confidence that some of the big ladies on here have.. funny till I got on the scales again my weight didn't bother me in the slightest.

Big doesn't have to mean unhealthy.. as I actually prove... and I am well into the red zone on those lovely obese charts they give you and even have a big red stamp on my medical records just in case they miss the fact I am not a size 10

BMI's are not so accurate when it comes to determining health or attractiveness -

I like fit guys, and some very muscled guys have high BMIs but are pretty lean.

I'm not keen on guys with too much looseness in their build, so if you saw them running- if they could - there'd be considerable movement and lack of firm support. Obviously waist sizes can get larger, as someone gets taller, without them seeming disproportionately overweight.

ShagTonight - our buddy - has a good lean build, so the closer to that the better for me

Size is irrelevant to attractiveness or at least it is to us. We'd sooner meet people who are happy and comfortable in themselves and not be judgmental than insecure people who are just plain bitchy.

Everyone in life is different so let us just celebrate that difference.

Lady of the couples philosophy is that she's got an arse so if she falls over backwards she's got cushioning and if she falls forward she's big boobs to bounce back up.

Attractiveness is about people not numbers and dress sizes.

Agreed! I've always been fat: got married in a size 24 wedding dress 34 years ago, my weight has never impacted on any part of my life until 2013 when I suffered from depression, piled on the Weight and developed diabetes.

When I got sick and almost fainted walking 800m and my ex saying he was worried I'd got so big, I did something about it.

Still big, but it's a work in progress. Joined a gym, replaced bananofee pie with a banana, apple for Apple Danish, ate less and moved more. Losing about 3kg a week and it's staying off.

I had to get there on my own.

When you can't see the elbows or knees anymore and the legs and arms look like sausages. When they have to use mobility scooters to get around.

On a woman I'd say fat is over 35% body fat, on men 22% is where I'd consider them fat. Measured with proper calipers.

My BMI classes me as obese. However i am perfectly healthy. I have no high blood pressure, no colesterol, heart is fine, no diabetes, no knee/back/chest problems. I can easily chase round after kids, i love swimming and i can do all sexual positions with no issues.

I have been more or less the same size for 20 years. I eat healthy, in fact probably more healthy than most people.

So suggest im not thinking of my future health is very wrong of u.

Also to say sites like this having bbws on is wrong is well, again, very wrong if u.

I was 16 and a half stone and had trouble with mobility, struggled to get out of a chair even. That was too big for me.

I actually like being fatter than i am now, nothing to do with sites like this one promoting anything. It's just when i'm slim i have a boyish shape, naturally athletic because of a higher level of testosterone but prefer to have a womanly shape.

If i didn't have diabetes i would be a couple of stone heavier and happy with that.

For guys i'm attracted to i like them to be big, but muscly as well. So someone fat/chubby and active i would love their body type. Not sure what too big would be but something like morbidly obese i don't think i'd like that, never met anyone that big though and only seen them on documentaries.

the ones that knock BMI -unless they are top class athletes with very high muscle ratio to fat....ARE usually the ones that do need to lose weight....

I have lost just under 3 stone and you would be surprised how much BMI does give a guide to "hidden" fat - so like I say undless you have a huge muscle bound body then maybe, yes, you should take notice of it...

Even many doctors are coming round to the fact that it's a guideline though. My BMI almost qualifies me for a gastric band operation, yet on waist to height ratio I'm perfectly fine. Anyone who has seen me can see that yep I'm overweight but not to the extent of morbid obesity, so clearly something is a little off there. I'm not muscly so it's not that.

Don't be so patronising in your assumptions.

I think its misleading as I said earlier. According to it I'm obese at 31. I'm a size 18, 15 stone and have a body fat percentage of 25. Best I get off to the gym and lose some weight

There is considerable debate in the medicial profession about scrapping the BMI system due to how misleading it can be. There are many clinical trials taking place to try and disprove its accuracy, one of which i partook in and came out physically healthy in sense of stamina and other factors than pregnant women with a 'healthy' BMI

Interesting you say that as that is what I was 6 months ago....and having been that size I was fat....

25% BMI means that one quarter of a body is fat - it sits on on and around the organs...

Just because people don't like the word "obese" ....the body is one quarter fat...that bit IS true

But it just 0.1% outside of the healthy range. So the Dr's seem to think up to a quarter of the body being fat is ok lol

There are way more indicators to a persons overall health than BMI and body fat such as age, activity level, diet, family history etc. Its just one factor in many that determine a persons overall health. I never said I didn't like the word obese, I don't consider myself that and never will but my build is as a result of years of lifting weights, swimming and cycling.

That's not actually what BMI means. Body fat percentages are different from BMI. A 'healthy' body fat percentage range for women is usually 21%-31%. If you're going to advise other people on their health you should probably know what you're talking about.

I think its misleading as I said earlier. According to it I'm obese at 31. I'm a size 18, 15 stone and have a body fat percentage of 25. Best I get off to the gym and lose some weight

No need you're hot! L x"

Why thank you my lovely

"The BMI of anyone that is BBW is going to be obese or even morbidly obese in some cases...guess they don't think about their future health though...the only person that can change it is the person concerned...but when you have websites like this promoting big being beautiful IMO something is wrong..

I have to agree with this.

That said there are times I've felt like a supermodel compared to some on here yet don't have even half of their confidence.

"It's quite sad still seeing these type of questions on here. Can't we all just accept everyone for who they are rather than their size or what is too skinny or too fat. "

Sadly all too many people can not be accepting of others that are different to themselves and as so many differences are now off limits to be a outwardly objectionable to (and rightly so I must add) and body size still being seen as "fair game" to voice loudly a disgust for then I'm afraid too fat and too thin will always be seen as a great opportunity to be contentious

Essex.

The other day I was at a railway station.

I noticed a guy kneeling down. He had obviously dropped something.

He was so large that he couldn't bend down so he had knelt down. He went to get up but couldn't. On the second attempt he fell over.

He wad within touching distance of 5 staff who ignored him. He even appeared to be tugging at the leg of one of the staff.

As he wasn't getting any help, I went over andgave him a hand.

At 6'4 and 200 lbs I am not small, yet as I helped him his leg collapsed under him.

He nearly pulled me off my feet...

He was too fat.

Obviously I don't know him so don't know if he was that way due to medical reasons or not...

You don't have to be muscle-bound:

My BMI is too high apparently. I am lanky and have fuck all fat on me. But I have big leg muscles and lean, dense muscle in other places.

Look at me, then decide whether you think BMW is remotely accurate.

Bmi is a reasonable measure for the average couch potato that makes up most of this country.

It does however fall down when it comes to active healthy people with muscle. Where because it works off total body mass not lean or fat body mass it judges them as fat.

But unless you happen to be a pretty competent athlete/body builder it's accurate

I'm "too fat" but I'm healthy enough to play football with the kids and never miss a day of work. Two pregnancies with perfect glucose and blood pressure results the whole way through - maybe I'm just lucky and taking advantage of being young but I'll lose weight when I have nothing better to do, but right now I'd rather spend time with my family than hit the gym considering I only get 2 days a week with the kids and an hour or two each evening before bed time!

What's too fat for us in the context of who we would play with is as simple as this .

If the person is so self conscious that it's an obvious problem for them , then it is for us too .

Simple .

Or make some very minor changes to your life to result in some long term lasting benefits that have nothing to do with appearance?

Until recently my cholesterol was dangerously high, changes to diet and now it's back well within healthy limits.

It wasn't a problem for me before the test I never knew it was elevated but a small change now meant that when I'm older there isn't going to be a lot of long term damage done.

"I think too fat is when your beginning to see health problems due to your weight... Just the same as if you were too thin.

"

I'd agree - but that differs massively from person to person! I, for instance, have a weak heart - and so have to watch my diet/exercise very carefully in order to avoid surgery. Any extra weight causes severe problems. Some men and women, however, can carry a lot more weight than me and maintain a healthy life style. Xx

I will probably word this wrong but here goes, i do often wonder about people with children ( and I have none so am aware I am not qualified to comment ). If people can't get to the very best of health for themselves, they must want to do it for their children. To do everything they possibly can to maximise the time with them, to see them grow up and celebrate grandchildren. I think the same on Bareback threads etc etc...

Now, I am not saying overweight/barebackers people are BAD parents, I am not saying that... just to minimise all potential risks to their health.

That is one of the most ridiculously inaccurate things I've ever read.. if I ate like a pig for 6 months and conditioned my body to be able to handle a gym session of some sort every day of the week for the same 6 months, allowing the odd rest day of course, I'd still be able to control my weight.

Sweeping generalisations like your statement above should be avoided, or else you run the risk of misinforming those that are already not informed enough to question such nonsense.

Really so you think someone on 5k calories a day is best suited to burning that off through what 6 hours plus cardio a day rather than changing thier diet?

Or that the average obese person would even be capable of that level of activity without severe injury?

Your seriously advocating for fat loss pure exercise over diet alteration?

My mum brought us up on home cooked fresh meals and fruit and veg. We had acres of land to run about on and I was and still am an active girl. I walk 3 miles a day etc. However as a kid I was overweight and my mum tried everything but I was a secret eater id eat when she was out in the yard etc. I don't blame my parents for being overweight I blame myself. My mum and my sister are incredibly slim me and my dad are overweight. However I agree with you are saying and it's down to education which some parents lack. It's also a generation thing where kids were brought up on processed deep fried crap who in turn bring their children up on. My sister is very strict with what she feeds her children on and they do not have a weight issue. I will be dammed if my children will be overweight I do not want my children to go through the struggles I did as a child nor do I ever want them to have to deal with an eating disorder which I am still dealing with so many years on. I know myself if I cut out alcohol and crisps then I'd loose more weight than I am now but I have lost over a stone so far. I'm quite contented with who I am and my size right now.

Sorry if all the above comes over as a rambling mess

Sorry if all the above comes over as a rambling mess "

"I'm "too fat" but I'm healthy enough to play football with the kids and never miss a day of work.

Weight is lost in the kitchen not the gym.

Trying to lose weight through gym work instead of through altering your food is something no one will succeed at

No you wouldn't. You can happily eat thousands of calories in a meal but you wouldn't have enough hours in the day to burn that off.

That's utter bollocks

Really so you think someone on 5k calories a day is best suited to burning that off through what 6 hours plus cardio a day rather than changing thier diet?

Or that the average obese person would even be capable of that level of activity without severe injury?

Your seriously advocating for fat loss pure exercise over diet alteration?

"

No, because that would be as ridiculous as you saying all you need dieting and no exercise.

Go away now, you are annoying me.

What's a kitchen? Lol I only have time to eat one meal a day and that is usually just chicken breast or pork chop and mash if hubby cooks and maybe veggie chilli or salad if I cook - it is all about the foods we eat, but its also about making time to eat at the right times and doing the right amount of movement to go along with it.

You can't simply eat less calories and hope to lose weight efficiently - time management is a major factor even in your eating patterns so even if my original point wasn't clear, it is still valid - I would rather spend my little time with my family and making sure they're happy and healthy than worrying about my own next meal (for the record, they have dinner at 5, 2 hours before I get home and I won't eat reheated food lmao)

"

This

And I don't believe weighing yourself too often or counting calories is necessarily the answer but a paleo or ketonic "style" diet

works more effectively in the long run.

Going back to the orignal question : Too fat for me is not about BMI (even GPs are moving away from using that as a sole indicator for fitness and health) but about being able to do all the things I want to do without getting out of breath, enjoying my (daily) exercise without thinking of it as a chore and not following any fads really.

I guess different people have different ideas as to what fitness and health mean to them.

When misinformed people decide to misinform others it can be extremely frustrating, especially when they needlessly dig their heels in when their "facts" are highlinghted to be dubious at best, it can be incredibly frustrating.

Apologies for talking bollocks about people talking bollocks

To be fair , having children and grandchildren doesn't necessarily mean you should stop living your life the way you want to live it .

Of course it's irresponsible to have kids and then deliberately risk your life , and some would say obesity and bareback may do this . But realistically I for one wouldn't say that an obese parent is doing an injustice to their kids by being fat , nor would I say that about a parent barebacking . If they die from either it's unfortunate for all concerned , but to blame them for taking risks is not really fair . Where do you draw the line ? Not going on planes , driving cars , living in rough housing estates etc.....

"the ones that knock BMI -unless they are top class athletes with very high muscle ratio to fat....ARE usually the ones that do need to lose weight....

The point that's being made here is that the average person can eat burgers and drink beer etc without growing obese if they balance their lifestyle with their eating habits and levels of physical activity.

But more often they don't, they plough calories down their throats without much consideration for the fact that those calories should be burned off to avoid growing fat.. and those people that do consider it don't always tailor their calorie consuption to avoid growing fat in the first, hence, people get fat.

I've also lost 5 stone over the past few years and I still have a lot to go, but I'm quite happy with my body at the moment. Yes I'm fat, and no it's not perfect, but I don't care. Take it or leave it.

I feel healthier and happier, and even if I got down to the weight and shape I want to, BMI will still say I'm obese

Body Mass Index combined with Body Fat Percentage gives a fairly accurate indication whether one is fat or obese. BFP calculations require a lot more data than BMI

1 hour of speed skipping continuously would burn around 800 calories that's the best cardio you can do for burning calories, if you ate like a pig and was eating 5 thousand calories a day would you really be able to 6 hours every day in the gym to not gain anything?

You know HiiT is high intensity interval training right which means it isn't a specific form of cardio it's a method of doing it. Speed skipping burns the most calories. I'll add "in my opinion" to that statement.

I have always found jogging works best for me with weight loss

I suppose we are all different and what works well for one may not be the best for another, when I joined fat camp last year I got a tread mill and did a hour a day and the weight just dropped off

I prefer HIT on either cross trainer or treadmill or even with weights - I agree skipping is not the best if you have problems with your knees although otherwise considered a very effective cardio workout.

1 hour of speed skipping continuously would burn around 800 calories that's the best cardio you can do for burning calories, if you ate like a pig and was eating 5 thousand calories a day would you really be able to 6 hours every day in the gym to not gain anything?

Oh, I didn't know that speed skipping was "the best cardio you can do", thank god you chose to use that 'fact' for the foundation of the point you wanted to make.

Isn't it great that you just happened to be right about that? Even after you invented the information to back it up?

No. I'm guessing wherever you are you're on your own. Go argue with yourself. "

"The BMI of anyone that is BBW is going to be obese or even morbidly obese in some cases...guess they don't think about their future health though...the only person that can change it is the person concerned...but when you have websites like this promoting big being beautiful IMO something is wrong..

My BMI is 31 which makes me obese, I'm in no way slim but I like to think I'm not obese, just sturdy! BMI is not a great measure.

Bmi is a reasonable measure for the average couch potato that makes up most of this country.

It does however fall down when it comes to active healthy people with muscle. Where because it works off total body mass not lean or fat body mass it judges them as fat.

But unless you happen to be a pretty competent athlete/body builder it's accurate"

You know HiiT is high intensity interval training right which means it isn't a specific form of cardio it's a method of doing it. Speed skipping burns the most calories. I'll add "in my opinion" to that statement. "

Yes I know what HIIT is and its very prominately proven to be a better form (therefore method) of cardio than most other forms of cardio. Even when only done for 20 mins 3 times a week.

That been said In my opinion.id personally choose swimming. Its not only good cardio but works/tones every muscle in the body also has a relaxing element where you can shut off from the world and be alone in your thoughts.

I am big boned. Only now as I am typing this can I see that is funny on two levels. That comment is only funny two ways on a site like this.

Laugh with me, I am a little proud of that one. If I read further up in a mo that someone else has already said it I am gonna cry.

Big or small is unimportant to me. It's how a person feels, carries themselves and how happy they are.

I'm a bigger woman - BMI wise classed as unhealthy. I exercise regularly (zumba and aqua aerobics with the ocassional home DVD thrown in!) and don't eat a shitty diet.

I'm confident, and feel good about myself.

I've been bigger - and then yes I was unhappy and my health was being affected by back pain. I've lost weight now (but still a big girl!) and my health is fine, and am happy with my body!

Given I can't run a marathon (black eyes from the boobs I'm telling myself ), but I don't want to. I'm on a mission to drop a few more dress sizes but has nothing to do with anybody else, and certainly isn't due to being unhappy or unhealthy!

Of course there are situations of the extreme either way (big and small) but it's no one else's business but the person themselves.

Embrace, the world is full of beauty of every size, shape and colour! If it's not what you're attracted to - look away and make way for someone that is. Go find what attracts you!

Oh well I'm clinically obese after all then. Best get back in my tank

Or make some very minor changes to your life to result in some long term lasting benefits that have nothing to do with appearance?

Until recently my cholesterol was dangerously high, changes to diet and now it's back well within healthy limits.

It wasn't a problem for me before the test I never knew it was elevated but a small change now meant that when I'm older there isn't going to be a lot of long term damage done."

My blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar/insulin levels have all been tested recently and are within the ideal ranges so I think I'm doing alright doing what I'm doing. I AM trying to lose weight for my own reasons, but when I've lost what I want to, I will still be in an overweight to obese BMI range, which I was last time I was a size 14. At 5'10 I'm not going to beat myself up about my BMI if I come out with ideal stats on every other measure. That's all I'm saying - that BMI should be regarded as just one of a suite of indicators (e.g. body fat %, blood pressure, cholesterol, waist to height ratio) not the be-all and end-all that some take it to be.

It's not an unhealthy guideline really. Obesity is such a big deal for society too, really should be addressed more inclusively to help future generations.

I think too fat is when I look at someone and they stand out for their size, in my eyes. Not in a judgement sense at all, more like I'm very open minded, I'm just ambitious for others and if they're clearly very unhealthy then it's something they need help with, in my opinion. I've helped a few people lose weight, often it's education or removing barriers. But the help has to start from themselves clearly.

Swimming is great I agree but back to my point which was speed skipping being the best method of cardio, and by best I mean burning the most calories in the fastest possible way. Ask any boxer, kick boxer or anyone with a martial arts background, ask anyone that's had to wear an elevation mask to bed for half of their life the importance of being able to skip continuously till you've dropped enough lbs for a belt or a fight. If running or swimming or any other form of cardio was better for dropping lbs fast then I'm sure that would have been used instead of skipping.

Yes I'm tutting and shaking my head at myself for being so pedantic!

The thing is not everybody finds it that easy to diet even when they really want to

I suffered with CED for years I have always had a really unhealthy relationship with food, the only way I could loose weight was laxative and fingers down the throat, and that's not something I am proud of, I had a mental compultion to eat but then I'd get so angry with myself I'd force myself to be sick, it really was the only way my brain could cope with weight loss, though I do longer go to such extremes I still have a unhealthy relationship with food, I binge eat then starve myself, my weight is up and down in unhealthy measures, every time you see me i will be a different dress size I have been known to go from a size 20 to a size 12 upto a size 16 in about 4 month, for some its really not as easy as saying just go on a diet, yeah I have lost weight but if you knew what I've put my body through to do it you have me sectioned and I always know it will go back on and in a few month I'd be knocking myself out to loose it again

Im back in my way dpwn again at the moment, im currently a size 14 but I will always be obese I just sometimes borrow a slimmer body but one day soon I has to go back

"I'm "too fat" but I'm healthy enough to play football with the kids and never miss a day of work.

Weight is lost in the kitchen not the gym.

Trying to lose weight through gym work instead of through altering your food is something no one will succeed at

If you consume more calories than you can burn off you will gain weight.

1 hour of speed skipping continuously would burn around 800 calories that's the best cardio you can do for burning calories, if you ate like a pig and was eating 5 thousand calories a day would you really be able to 6 hours every day in the gym to not gain anything?

If your kids are genuinely not fat, you feed them good food and encourage them to continue to eat and in time prepare good food for themselves, then obviously no, that is the polar opposite of abuse.

Spread the word, not the jam.

There is another issue to the whole debate on fat, good diets and obesity...

For years we have been spoon fed to believe that eating fatty foods is making us fat.

The general advice has changed significantly and the government is now admitting that fat is not the main culprit but low fat products with high sugar content.

The point I am making is that even with trying to understand what constitutes a healthy diet there is a huge amount of contradictory advice out there.

You must have been extremely lucky then to have always been evenly matched for your weight class whenever you've had a fight or gone for a belt.

I'm not saying the skipping was the only method of cardio, pad and bag work would also make up my cardio, my main point I'm trying to make is to burn the most calories in the fastest way, I'm talking days and even hours sometimes, speed skipping is the best for that.
