"A recent survey said that women no longer see a door being held open or a chair pushed in as a gentlemanly act. So ladies, what makes a man a Gentleman and do you even want one? " I will hold open a door for anybody who happens to walk behind me, I show respect to everybody, male and female, old and young - I appreciate it when people reciprocate this irrespective of their gender and status. Yes, it is lovely when a gentleman holds a door open for me - yet in today's society and for reasons of gender equality I would not EXPECT it. In the same way I would never expect a man to pay for my dinner - we would go halves or we would take turns or I would find another way of making things balanced and fair. Does that answer your question?

"A recent survey said that women no longer see a door being held open or a chair pushed in as a gentlemanly act. So ladies, what makes a man a Gentleman and do you even want one? Unless they've surveyed every woman on the UK then they can't really make such a sweeping statement (and I don't recall ever being asked that question ) I think both those acts are gentlemanly so I'd have ruined their survey results! " Agree, and no one asked my opinion either! I left a meet early because the man didn't hold the door for me. Regardless of who's coming behind me I hold the door: it's just common courtesy! When I mentioned it he looked at me in surprise and said "this isn't a date!". If he wasn't decent in public he wouldn't show any respect in my home so that was me out! For weeks he pestered me to meet...yeah, right!
