"So Ed Milliband is championing a female James Bond and people think this man can run the country .... Yet another reason to keep the lefties out ! Why shouldn't there be a female Bond ?" Because Ian Fleming the author wrote James Bond as a man. "I think putting judy dench in as m was because stella rimmington was head of mi5/mi6 and shit..but putting a woman in as bond will fuck it all up..its just pc going mad again why would it? no one has yet provided a good answer for this." 1. what sets bond apart from his competition (Ethan Hunt, Jason Bourne et al) is his quintessential English Gentleman's charm, something that just would not be the same from a woman. 2. As a character he engages something an old fashioned childish fantasy inside men something a woman in the role could not. Basically what makes Bond, Bond is the sexist misogynistic boys own adventure. You kill the baddie, and get the girl, a story that hits the genetic make up of a man. This is why, albeit in my opinion, why Bond could never be portrayed by a woman.

" Yes that makes sense and I don't see a problem with it as such except your statement that in your opinion Bond could "never" be portrayed by a woman and your claim that genetics is why men feel this way. If we opened our minds to at least try and accept a female in a traditional male role might we see that it's nurture rather than nature that makes us feel the way we do? My opinion only.

"I just don't think a female bond would be as appealing as much to men, as alot of men think his lifestyle is amazing, he gets the guns, gadgets, cars, girls,,,,,,,,it's a blokes dream life. The film needs to appeal to its audience which I would think is mostly male. It's not sexism it's just that the character of the stories is a male, let's not change that. If you want to watch a female secret agent, watch nikita! For instance, what if we changed Mary poppins to a bloke,,,,,it would be weird and wouldn't work. " Hmmmm Like Mrs. Doubtfire mayhap ?

"Any Bra burners here today by any chance? Blimey! There's a blast from the past, I think it was the seventies when I last heard that expression. Germaine Greer and her like are still alive and kicking, keeping the feminist torch (burnt bra) alive. Germaine Greer ? What is HER like ? If you say what you mean I'd understand. Google is your friend! " I don't need Google to find out who she is. Im asking you for your understanding. Which, at present just seems to be negative myth perpetuation without substance.

"Is this one of labour's election policies? It's a bit thin, surely there are more pressing issues, i'll get behind the party that champions a blakes 7 remake" I met a member of the Blakes 7 cast recently - she should be in it if there's a remake.

"Well...statistically. ....female Bonds are five times more likely to scrape the bumper on the drive post than male Bonds." not so bad though, they'd probably be driving a qashqai rather than an aston.

The Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock Holmes isn't really the same character as the one in the books. I don't get the big deal.

"Wasn't Bond gay ? I saw a documentary wher Fleming said the original Bond was a homosexual but that wouldn't have been popular so he changed him into a womaniser for a bit of a whimsey. He had no idea it would take off so much with all the gullible macho types. " Highly unlikely as bond was based on Fleming, himself an alcoholic womanizer, and a few other SOE agents he knew. Especially given the time the books were written and what happened to the likes of Turin (someone that Fleming had more than one falling out with).
