Don't take your car to be MOT'd at D&G Livingston, you will come out with a much bigger bill, mine was £90!! They will say there is something that needs doing

The land of grey peas and bacon

I thought that was the sole purpose of getting your car MOT to make sure it was road worthy and safe and if any work needed carrying out in order for it to pass...

In n.Ireland, mot is carried out at a government mot centre.they don't fix cars that fail, you must then take your car to a mechanic to put right any faults

you get what you pay for, they cant survive on 10 quid mots, it is easier, to find approx less than 100 quids worth of work, most would be happy getting a mot for less than a 100, vosa fee is around the 50 mark, some of the nation wide garages do the same as the mechanics need to hit targets

my mot is up for doing soon.... everywhere i have look so far is around the 25-30 pound mark to get it done

the mot is just the mot bit... it doesn't include any repairs if needed....

If it failed the test, you are well within your rights to take it elsewhere for repairs and bring it back for a retest

but it is easy to leave it if repairs are less a 100 quid, thats what they bank on, you may get repairs done 20 quid cheaper elsewhere but is it worth the running about

i thought them days were long gone, as a car has to be logged on, but i dont think as you say car has to there unless cctv is standard, and i doubt if the mot station would risk losing their business, for the sake of 100 quid

We use one that you only pay if it passes then if anythings wrong you can search for the cheapest garage . We even take the rust bucket lambo there and it flies through .

You'd be surprised of what some businesses do.....

MOT on a de-cat diesel? No problem

Not hard to get an MOT that will overlook things

yes right if its small things like a bulb out, emissions high, but i doubt if faulty brakes or tires would be overlooked, as insurance is also invalid with bent mots, and vosa would check milage etc in a accident, also if you got run over by a car with a bent mot, thats when the probs start

the mot slip is no longer required as all the car details are online and easy to check .you can just chuck your mot certificate away if u wanted too.

in essence the mot certificate is now just a receipt for the customer. just because it's nice to have something literally in their hand that says that their car has passed

its also to hand over when you sell the car if i was buying a car and they said check online i would be dubious, i wonder if in the future if the new owner had to re mot within a time limit

"i thought MOT's were a set price?"

There is a set recommended maximum price (£54.85 I think), but essentially can give whatever discounts they like off of that price.
