My sons crosser ( motorbike ) got stolen

From my garage on Tuesday night . I called the police , got a crime number and a victim of crime booklet ! Very helpful . Now I wasn't expecting a lot from the police , but last night one of my friends called me having seen the bike riding about on the open road . I got in my car in hot pursuit and rang the police to update them of the bikes whereabouts , we gave Chase a few times , as the thieving scumbag rode about like a lunatic , and guess what , in three hours of a motorbike being rode illegally on the open road not one policeman or panda car came anywhere near ! No wonder the police struggle for respect ... Rant over

I'm sorry but not suprised. I phoned the police one evening to tell them which of their police vans, which wasn't responding to any emergency at the time, had just driven past the guy stealing push bikes. The van had been within 5m of him with a totally unobstructed view ffs.

My nephew is a police officer in inner London. They don't have the manpower or resources they need and spend a lot of time on paperwork.

How do you know it wasn't responding to something more important?

I know this is of no help but the police are often very reluctant to get into chases involving motorbikes, especially off-road bikes. The chances of them catching them are slim and the risks of a serious accident are high.

It was trundling down the pedestrian zone at about 5 miles an hour. When they are responding to anything in the town centre, even in the pedestrian only area, they drive somewhat more quickly.

Yup I always wonder if you had one of those tracker style bike alarms if you could have it rigid so you send it a message after its been stolen and a little solenoid controlled piston could slam the front brake on when you see it going down the motorway ^_^

We have had around 5 mx bikes stolen over my sons years of racing it has been known for them to follow vans home then rob the bikes cost us thousands but worse the heartache of seeing my son at the time heart broken

I feel bad for the police as they don't have a lot of power.

However, once called them when there was a gang in our local park, intimidating people walking past. They then blocked the path of two young lads (I think they were trying to mug them), cue a 3rd, more urgent call to the police when they set upon these two lads like a pack of hounds and then broke into the park shed to get bits of wood to attack them with.

The two lads managed to get away and ran off while the gang set off after them with their new weapons.

The police finally arrived and, I kid you not, the car stopped at the bottom of the road and watched this gang, still running with bits of wood and knives, ect. They watched until the gang went around the corner and then calmly drove in the opposite direction.

We flagged the car down and asked what the Hell they were doing (they admitted they were called about a gang attacking pedestrians) and pointed out that the gang who they had calmly watched who were clearly up to no good, running with bats and 20" bits of wood were still chasing the two young lads and had clearly gone in the other direction.

They said "Oh" as if they hadn't seen, and began a half-arsed attempt at looking for them, including going in the wrong direction again when they got to the end of the road.

I was amazed. It's one thing if these gangs are just annoying people but not doing anything serious. It's a completely different matter when someone is physically under attack.

Let's face facts the only people the police can go after are the working middle class. The only people with something to lose and not enough money to pay for a decent solicitor. So let's concentrate on motoring offences that bring in good money rather than some kids knicking a bike which doesn't.

And any idiot vigilante taking the law into their own hands and chasing them is putting other innocent road users at significant risk

How do you catch someone on a bike that doesn't want to be caught? I'd imagine outside of Street Hawk, you wait till they crash then sweep them up.

Police have sooooo much paper work to fill in these days .. its easier to turn a blind eye ...a good old fashioned clip around the ear ... but you carnt

Do that anymore .... breaching human rights ....
