Thank God none of the neighbourhood children is learning the bagpipes! Trumpet next door is bad enough.

I love to hear the sound of a youngster learning any instrument - it means music education is still going on.

Without young musicians coming through the system, the future of our outstandimg British orchestras is at risk

I can play the recorder and Northumbrian pipes and my neighbours have yet to complain. The violin nearly broke me though; until you're good it just sounds terrible.

I do agree, up to the point I have heard the two hour trumpet practice.

Our local schools have all got really good music programmes. Just in the family we have had piano, recorder, trumpet, cello, violin, guitar and clarinet.

2 hours trumpet practice - excellent - in this age of t'internet and gaming - well done him/her! From your point of _iew - just think about the time you can pop along to the Barbican and hear him/her playing in the LSO and say - "I remember hearing them practicing and driving me up the wall!"

music programmes are sadly the first to receive cuts - which results in many very talented young people missing out.

I'm pretty sure he has gone to bed now as the practice has stopped and it's after 10pm

I have had a seven year old challenge me to learn to play something on the piano. She is going to teach me.

Anything played badly. It causes me pain to hear flat or sharp notes. I cringe

I was quite good with my recorder, violin and piano lessons at the start,I just couldn't play anything other than simple tunes. My grandson was much better than his sister on the violin,I could listen to him,I couldn't her. She was extremely bad.

I played all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order

They're a smaller English version of the bagpipes. Less volume.

"The harmonica."

does a quick check in case it was one of my neighbours. Learning to bend notes on harmonicas is especially bad, even my cats let me know their disapproval when I try this.

I agree with violin... It would be so much better if they put some frets on it... I really think that you need to be really, really good on a violin to make it sound alright, average on a violin is still painful.
