With the news of the x files returning which arguably went on too long on its original run. I wondered what people thought didn't get a fair chance before it got cancelled. Anything other than Firefly please because that's too obvious. My entries would be Touch and V.

This is tricky, as I can think of a lot that went on a series too long.

So many american series try to wring 100 episodes out of pap but shy away from programmes that are a little bit more edgy. Alphas, battlestar Galactica, reaper, dollhouse... I'd also add in buffy even though it ran for 7 seasons it finished before its time

the classic answer to this is always "fawlty towers" because they only ever made 12 episodes........

but if you want something more up to date i loved "dead like me" and "pushing daisies" ... which were both comedy dramas about death...

oooh... and i loved deadwood.... that only lasted two series i think!!!

oh... honorary mention goes to "arrested development"... thank god netflix finally brought it back!!!!

Look on the website geek town, it will fill you in on most things like that and it also has rumours which IMDb doesn't.

I think some series run their course and the writers start stretching, at that point it becomes obvious it should end but sometimes the networks just pull the funding to pay the kardashians more money or to fund the next series of I'm an idiot get me on tv

"The Prisoner" by Patrick McGoohan

Decades ahead of it's time and a startlingly brilliant and intelligent allegory of the human condition that has undoubtedly shaped my whole life...

It's still the only series that I completely understand instinctively...

Just 17 episodes from the 1960's that changed life as we knew it...

If you don't understand it, then you aren't alive!

NYPD Blue was a seminal series, and though it did run for several seasons (probably more than I think) I'd happily watch it now.

Dennis Franz as Andy Sipowicz was just such a great character and each episode the stories were slick and really well crafted. Other series have emulated it but this one was the best.

I used to be fixed to it.

Lumley and Illya Kuryakin "

Ooh no you're not, essential early evening _iewing. Had a big of a crush on Joanna Lumley back then!

I was gutted when Twin Peaks finished, great first series, 2nd series started off well, went off the rails, then the brought David Lynch back and it ended on a high again ... and was then canned. But good news, it's (hopefully) back next year subject to contracts!

Twin Peaks (Yes, I know)

Star Trek

but out of all of these shows, the one I wish would come back is In The Flesh. I love zombie movies and tv shows, so this one was perfect and was something I looked forward to every sunday night.

Damned BBC Three...

And who would have guessed that Omar would become a gay icon?

I've not seen it yet but my mate was on about it. Sounds good.

Omar was a really good character.

Liked that bit where he's shopping for a court suit.

Didn't like how his story ended though. Thought that was a bit cheap.

Had expected Omar to go out with a real Bang. The same with Stringer Bell

Yeah me too.

That girl who hangs out with Chris, I thought she was a he. Looks so like a dude."

What was her name, scoot? Scoop? She was a genuine gang banger brought in off the street for that role. Story is that she is still living the life.

Would go for

John Doe (brilliant first series)

Jake 2.0 (cancelled for low ratings, but it was pretty fun in a geeky way)

The Tripods (though you can read the books)

The Borgias (though you can read the history)

Defiantly The Event, never even found out what happened, it just ended mid way

Also, there was a series about a surgeon who was effectively jeckl and Hyde but was developing a drug to stop himself turning into the bad guy and again it just stopped

Firefly was a Sci-fi series with wild west overtones. Good stories, great characters, fantastic scripts vs incompetent network and erratic scheduling. It lasted only half its first season before the dvd box set went on to become one of the best-selling that year.

It won't be everyone's cup of tea but it excels at what it does.

There is a saying always leave the audience wanting more.

Fawlty Towers Two series

Blackbooks Four series

Blackadder Four complete series

These probably left us a little frustrated as for me these no weakness, no bad episode, just brilliant or total, total genius.
