Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

if a round pizza was delivered in a round box it would have to be a lot bigger than nessecary in order to be able to get your fingers in to get it out - in a square box it's quite neat but you have gaps in the corners to make a start of getting it out to eat it.Z

It could have a hole in the bottom under the first slice to poke it up with thus releasing access to the second.

There must be a better reason

A square box has a larger surface area than an equivalent circular box. Therefore more space for graphics, advertising and narrative.

I think the box folding is the nearest at a guess. It must be cheaper and easier to make. Unless there is another reason??

This is an easy one. In a round box, you wouldn't have any corners to put the garlic dip in.

In Italy where I have some family they more often than not make square pizzas and put them on round plates!

It's a mad mad world!

As for the boxes being square its much cheaper to make a square box than a rounded one, the physical structure of paper means it's much easier to manipulate in straight sections. The machinery involved to automate the production of round sided boxes would be a prohibitive cost.

Plus it is easier getting your fingers in!

Plus, if you wash and dry the box carefully you can use it as a file to store papers.

Much easier using a square box than cutting all the corners of A4 papers to make them fit a round box.

Square boxes are also better at stacking up, more efficient for takeaways on a Friday night when requiring dozens of boxes readily assembled for the sake of speed.

Square boxes are easier to make, ship and store flat. Round boxes typically have to be pre-made and are more bulky to transport

I guess it would be possible to make a round box that is hinged and locks but would be really expensive ?

Plus, with stacking square boxes up, piles of them can be pushed tight together, eliminating wasted space. Even with the tightest formation possible, circular boxes would leave funny little shapes inbetween.

In truth, they make em square so that :

1. they don't roll around in the delivery van, and

2. they don't roll off of yer table, and like toast, land face down on yer carpet. Whereupon all sorts of nasties would adhere to your pizza and give it a funny taste.

its easier to make a square box than round, it all interlocks by the use of its corners, circles dont have corners (i think lol)
