I play violent video games and have done all of my life. I am also a pacifist so work that one out!

Gaming is the same as reading a book, watching TV or film. They are a release. Sometimes after a hard day, blasting a load of zombies into oblivion makes you feel so much better. It certainly doesn't make me a sociopath.

Gaming is now the best selling media format in the world. Games outsell movies and music. The sheer volume of games moved is incredible. You can't tell me they are only for sociopaths

A lot of people saying kids should play outside more rather than play computer games in the house. You just can't do that these days, I was a street kid back in the early 90's, only used to come back home for a drink and a piss and even then if we were too busy playing my friends and I would pee in a field rather than go home. Before the age of 11 I was allowed to give my friends a knock at their houses, play outside, go to the shop or park with kids my age and younger. I don't think I'm gonna be comfortable having my daughter go out alone till she's like 18 or something and with 8 years or more of martial arts training. World is too bloody scary. Even if kids don't watch violent films or play violent games you can't stop the news.

I remember when lee rigby was killed in 2013 my daughter was 3 and the picture of the two killers came on the 6 O clock news, my daughter looked at the telly and asked who they were and I said they were bad men. Fast forward a couple of weeks when we were in build a bear in Cardiff, she spots two black guys and starts shouting bad men,bad men!

When I have a kid, I'll allow it to play what I deem ok. If it's violent, so Be it. I'll teach it that it's not real and doing those activities in the real world is not ok.

My kids had always played over aged games as age appropiate games were too easy. Now 19 and 21, leading constructive lives never harmed anyone because they could distinguish betweenwhat was acceptable and what wasnt in a 'normal' society.

However I can see how kids with maladaptive behaviours could be influenced. This is where parental responsibility comes into play. As parents, you know your child.... That said if some children are pre-dispositioned to maladaptive behaviout then they will be influenced one way or another.

Ive always played violent video games. Played all the gta games, fighting games, all of them when i was younger.

Ive never once felt like knicking cars n killing people or just punching random people on the street...

It's a false correlation between exposure to games/films ect and somebody doing terrible things later in life it is however a fantastic thing to point the finger at and divertion from the failings of the law and order system in this country (not the police or courts possibly even schools and parents often their hands are tied)

Having said that I'm lead to believe that Jack the Ripper completed GTA Vice City within a week of release and the SS watched 28 days later as part of basic training so maybe there is a connection

My children were into Sonic and Mario, they had no interest in violent games. My daughter would cry and leave the room if Michael Jackson's Ghost came on MTV and she'd not watch commercials should the Chewits advert came on, that frightened her too...bless her.

Most games are rated 18 for violence, yet you can join the army as a soldier before that age.

It's up to parents to decide what's best for their kids. Their kids can't legally buy these games but adults can and it's not against the law to let your kids play them, they're just guidelines for parents.

I think those children who've gone on to kill would have done so with or without the influence of violent computer games. Games are merely an outlet to focus on.

If no games were available then something else would become a focus, be it books, films, music, bullying etc.

I don't think it's the games that make children or adults kill, it's an outlet to release what is already there.

As a lad growing up in the 60s and 70s there were no video games . And violence amongst kids at school was rife . My kids grew up playing the games we are talking about , as did their pals , and they weren't subjected to the violence and bullying I was . So how does that work ?

There are many more kids now than there were then , racial hate is now minimal compared to my day too , and today's kids are far better behaved .

So this talk of games inciting violence , rape etc... Is complete nonsense .
