who believes in it, and if so, why?

I'm currently reading a book called "soul survivor" about a little boy who at the age of 2 started having vivid nightmares and mentioning details which he couldn't have possibly picked up from else where, he went onto mention names, and exact details of a past life which were all proven to be accurate .

There's also a documentary on YouTube which follows the same theme.

I'm open minded about it, but some of the evidence is not coincidental.

If I was going to believe in anything religious I'd plump for this. Ignoring bad traits it would be wonderful to think that positive energy from a person doesn't get extinguished and at the point of their passing, someone else gets born with their energy, talent and love.

I always feel a very very strong attraction to the 1930's/40's WW2 era. Why I have no idea but out of all the times in history that anybody mentions to me, that is the time that gives me goosebumps - maybe I was killed during the war ? who knows but I would never rule it out that people can be reincarnate.

I cannot in my wildest imagination think what it must be like to be dead - to just switch off and that's that.

The nearest I can come up with is like being in a deep sleep and even then - you are still 'aware'

Its weird ..... I don't have any specific memories and I don't claim to know any key facts, dates or anything like that but I am so, so attracted to that era and I can relate to it as though I was there, the squadrons of bombers at airfields, the music played by Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller and all those bands of the time .... I can really really relate to it all. I visited Eden Camp a few years ago and also Auschwitz and Majdanek concentration camps in Poland and the sense of connection that I had was actually quite frightening ... maybe the product over an over active imagination ..... I just don't know

I had a vivid dream a few weeks ago and this thread has made me remember it ...

It was a big fire at some kind of industrial plant - Chemical / Petrochemical ?? I don't know, but anyway I recall the dream which showed ,me the fire which was small, then it got out of hand and eventually it was just a massive blaze but the thing which really stands out was the sounds ..... the sounds of things exploding and flying into the air - I can still hear it and see it - a whooshing sound like a missile being launched and banging and flashing - was I there and killed or is this my mind playing tricks on me ..?

Those are two separate concepts.

One asks us to believe that human beings have lived other lives centuries before.

The other asks us to believe that human beings living in their own lifetime will invent something never seen before.

Not comparable.

Dont believe per se... but I can get behind the conservation of energy. We can grow pretty much anything in a lab but its not alive, just responding to external support (bar cloning, thats a whole other thing). Theres an extra spark missing, when someone dies that spark goes somewhere, why not into another life form?

Although my logic based thinking is more scientific than spiritual, I have learnt to try not to tell people what they should and should not believe.

'Reincarnation' when defined as 'a new version of something from the past', is a scientific fact.

All the atoms and sub-particles that make us and the rest of the universe up have been here since the big bang. When we die and decay our atoms simply become something else over time.

Reincarnation of the soul is another matter, there just isn't enough evidence to decree it scientific 'fact'.

We don't know though. Maybe we do reincarnate but in a way that no one has yet imagined....or maybe not.

I read lots of creepypastas n the best one by far is the government want to limit the population so evwrytime time a woman gets pregnant she has to choose someone from her family or close friends to die before the child is born. Not completely unbelievable

I know that we were at a position, less than 50 years ago, where most of the people ever born were still alive.

That is to say that, due to an expanding population, there were more people alive than had previously died in the entire history of our species...

So there just weren't enough dead people for us all to have had a previous life ...

So from that point, reincarnation of the human soul is just a non-starter on simple numerical grounds!

That is to say that, due to an expanding population, there were more people alive than had previously died in the entire history of our species...

So there just weren't enough dead people for us all to have had a previous life ...

So from that point, reincarnation of the human soul is just a non-starter on simple numerical grounds!

You assume that if reincarnation exists human souls go from human to human as opposed to animal or vegetable.

Yeah we're born with innate qualities that ensure we know how to survive from the minute we're born. They aren't learned behaviours from copying someone, but there aren't that many and some are triggered physically.

Lot of scientists believe that many things are epigenetic now, they can be switched on by certain things. It's really interesting. I should think about this stuff more often and start learning more about it again.

I can only go from personal experience.

It is one of those things that you can never convince someone off, it is down to personal experience.

I have experienced what people call inherited memory. I have seen numerous examples of what are called poltergeists. I have seen "ghosts" as clear as a physical human.

Does it mean there is something called reincarnation? I don't know. Is there something after death, then I would have to say that there may be. What it is I don't know but I don't know how to explain things I have experienced.

One version of reincarnation was once explained to me as follows:

You die,

You are buried,

Your DNA become part of bacteria, worms etc.

The worm becomes part of a bird.

The bird is shot and is on the table.

Part of your body is consumed.

Not the reincarnation I was expecting but a valid version nonetheless.

There are lots of 'valid' (scientific) versions. The one's that require faith are those that revolve around a soul.

To many they are no less valid.

i tried that past life regreession, i mentioned london 1821, he asked me if i could read any signs in the street, i said eaves, and 1821 was the eaves race in london, next life i was a flapper girl in usa, 1925, theres a lot of things we cant explain so i have a open mind

I can't see that we're anything other than some physical matter that gets formed as a person, dies and decays. I think anything else is wishful thinking and anything we perceive as meaning we have an existence based on anything other than chemistry is due to our limiting biases.

Not very religious, don't really believe in heaven and hell or the afterlife etc, all due to a lack of evidence. However, there have been several stories about reincarnation and regression, usually involving young children describing events that they would know nothing about. So I keep an open mind about this

Plus half of what needs to be done to find out the answers is unethical. We advanced so much medically during WWII but i'm sure no-one would be up for doing those kind of tests again. I wouldn't want them to either.

There's also the question of how you define 'knowing'.

Some require the repeatable evidence based approach of science, some just require their own personal experience.

To the individual, however they've reached their conclusion, what they 'know' becomes their reality whether based in belief or not.
