I wasn't being incosiderate. I feel sorry for the families of those lost, I really do, but in the interest of balance it would be nice for people to post about some of the good news that seems to go unnoticed in the midst of tragic events.

Ah, ok I may have misunderstood your comment as it came across as pretty abrupt and inconsiderate to me. Maybe just the way I read it. I think it may have been the swearing part that made it seem that way!

Don't do a u-turn OP.

The way some post on R.I.P threads and 'Tragedy Threads' expressing their sympathies for families they don't even know you'd think they would be in a permanent state of depression as thousands of people die every day.

You don't know them, they don't know you, and many die in much worse circumstances than those in the air crash.

If folk are so affected why don't they start threads about the person whose death appears in the local paper who has left loved ones behind?

Oh no, I'm not doing a u-turn, it does get a bit tedious when you keep seeing the same subject on every social network outlet. That's all I was getting at.

Yes it's tragic what has happened and yes I do feel for the people personally affected by it. I read about it and feel for them but it has no personal effect on me, it's not gonna change my life so I just carry on.

Dunno what's been going on on here because I've been busy having a good afternoon.

I'm happy.

I'm even looking forward to doing some cleaning, which I usually hate, shortly.

Then I shall spend the evening catching up with TV programmes I've recorded and painting my toes and I might push the boat out and have a glass or two of wine.

In a slightly heartless way how is the plane crash more important?

The Clarkson thing affects most of the people talking about it they are losing a show they enjoy.

The plane crash is just no different to rubber necking an accident on the motorway.

It's tragic that it happened but it doesn't really affect anyone talking about.

Not just slightly heartless really.

'Aw I'm sorry you don't get to see people driving around in fast cars any more'

Isn't quite on par with a plane crashing killing 150 people which any member of the forum (or the public in general) could of had a friend or relative on that plane.

Top gear is just a programme. No one died. It won't carry on affecting those involved forever.

I'm not sure if they are losing a show?

A new presenter maybe?

In my opinion any sort of accident/tragedy where lives are lost and family and friends are effected means more to me than a presenter losing his job because he stupidly punched a producer or who ever.

I see no tragedy for a man who resorts to violence not having his contract renewed. I think it's pretty despicable that his victim has had to go into hiding because he is getting death threats.

Well it has sparked a good debate though, don't you think?

I don't watch a whole lot of TV to be bothered about people like Clarkson, things like that happen in the work place every day all around the world, deal with it. As for the plane crash, yes it's sad and it's tragic and my condolences go to those affected. But as someone has posted 70,000 other planes took off and landed safely today. Things will happen either by accident or design, that's life.

I have a "good news" post to put up so keep and eye out people

Maybe it's because situations like the one Clarkson was in happen all around me all the time. I hear of them on a daily basis. They normally but not always stop short of physically hitting someone but if they do go that far it is never as one sided as the Clarkson incident has been made out to be. Was Clarkson deservedly punished? Yes but after seeing Alan Yentob being interviewed I still believe that that the whole thing was whitewashed. The format of the programme will have to change, it will probably come back in a much more bland and pc friendly format, viewers will lose interest and it may well be cancelled. Revenue will be lost and jobs will be at stake. In the great scheme of things no, it is not important, as far as my life goes it just means another hour of CSI or storage wars to watch instead of a laddish and juvenile motoring based "factual" light entertainment series.

The world keeps turning and arguments at work will carry on happening with grown men and women screaming their lungs out at each other.

its not black and white, it is a complex issue, you want to keep ignoring the fact that I said he should be punished to promote your anti Clarkson agenda, that isn't my problem. You have met me and know there is more to me than childish one liners and banal comments. I have been an elected trade union representative defending my members rights. Whatever is reported in black and white especially in the media on closer inspection has a thousand shades of grey which may have came out at the Beeb but definitely haven't been made public in the official report. Personality needs to be put to one side and the facts need to be considered.

Comments such as sack him because he is a twat don't even come close to it.

People believe in the cult of personality, you only have to look at the beliebers and Michael Jackson fans who refuse to believe that he committed crimes against children.

The fact is that JC hit a producer after a 30 minute rant, who in their right mind stands there and takes that after they believe they have been sacked anyway, certainly not me.

The punishment was the cancelling of three tv shows and four live performances and his contract not being renewed.

There will probably be a secret internal review to find out what happened on the day. There will be a review to see what can be salvaged and what happens next. Heads will roll and the reality is that Uison Tymon will probably end up out of a job along with the rest of the team when TG ends up being cancelled. The baying hordes want their pound of flesh and they have had it. Do I feel sorry for the producer at the centre of the story? He may have screwed up (or not) but he doesn't deserve the media attention and death threats so yes I feel sorry for him too.

Nobody wins in this sorry circus.

I've read this and many other clarkson/bbc( there actually the same topic)threads with great interest.

It splits the opposing sides with venom, those who passionately love him and those who passionately hate him!.

I actually don't think it's about him or the BBC, most people just add there left wing/right wing agenda to the debate!.

I don't actually feel sorry for either of them, their both grown men and should be able to get along as it's not too much to ask really is it.

Tv and film and celebrity is very rarely what it seems and the facts are it's part of the job, you never really know what's gone on unless you were there!

I don't like Clarkson and I have been quite clear on that. However, I don't have an anti-Clarkson agenda here now the report is out.

Before my comments were that I believed him capable of it and that *if* he had, he should be sacked (as any other person would be). Now the report is out, how I feel about Clarkson is irrelevant.

I have an anti-violence and bullying at work stance. The fact that it was Clarkson is irrelevant now.

Your attitude seems to be that, even though anyone else would have been sacked for this, the situation is different here because other people rely on Clarkson for their job and the BBC will lose a lot of revenue as a result.

I'd say that's a pro-Clarkson stand from you rather than an anti-Clarkson position from me. I would be saying exactly the same of anyone who hit someone at work.

Yes, I have met you, which is why I am surprised at your determination to defend someone who did something indefensible.

Yes, you've said he deserved to be punished buy you also continue to insist he's been treated unfairly and talking about there being mitigating factors and facts we don't know. The only fact that matters here is that he abused and hit someone at work.

There are no winners but that rests solely on the head of the man who couldn't control himself and keep his fists to himself.

too many generalisations..

there are many who are indifferent to the person and the show, also the issue is about whether its acceptable to punch someone in the mouth for whatever reasons apart from self defence etc there are not and be it in the workplace, at home or out in the pub its wrong..

its neither left or right either..

the interesting aspect is that many folks think yes its ok to deal with a colleague this way because of the reasons alleged, its bollocks as you can bet the same people would be doing their crust where it to happen to them or their own..

as for it was down to 'pressure' as some have surmised, fuck me sideways..

as we speak there are people working in situations on the street, our hospitals etc where mistakes do happen and yet they don't go lashing out with their fists..

notice the punched guy has said he doesn't want to press criminal charges which is probably sensible..

Clarkson should also be the one apologising to the 'fans' etc as only he caused the end of the show in its current form..

no one else..

I know what your saying, I'm certainly not one who thinks he's been unjustly treated.

I've worked in the building industry 27 years, I've seen my fair share of blokes punching each other over nonsense. But it's never over the nonsense, it's usually a long standing dislike of many things with the nonsense being the straw breaker.

The facts of the matter are he's taken his punishment for his crime and moved on and so it appears has the producer, let's hope in the future they both can put aside difficulties in the workplace the sensible way!.

Although I doubt that will happen either

I don't think this a matter of left vs right. If the question was just 'Do you like Clarkson?' then it might well divide down those lines.

I make know bones about it. I'm right of centre in my politics, I liked Clarkson, I'm sorry that he's going but he does have to go. What he did was totally unacceptable and he does deserve the punishment he has got. I would not even think it wrong if the police brought a charge against him for assault, after all, that is what he has done.

I would also be more than happy to see anyone who is trying to intimidate the real victim here (the producer) perused to the maximum extend possible under the law. That behaviour is even more unacceptable than the original offence.

I think the big difference in this debate now is not between left and right but between reasonable and unreasonable people. And you just can't reason with unreasonable people

Good points my friend but most people were arguing about it before any facts came out, the only difference being the facts haven't alerted either sides pre ordained opinion, just one side has been vilified and the other had gone on to vent their spleen at the bbc or any other closely tied affiliate.

It's the "but"s that you are trying to attach to the argument that I have a problem with.

There may indeed be facts we haven't been told. They aren't relevant.

Oh and eventually you said threats against the producer were wrong. Initially you said "that's showbiz".

With that, again you implied things are different, and different rules should apply because Clarkson is a celebrity.

That's the only bias here. Your hero worshipping.

I work in an industry which is around 90% male. That is a lot of testosterone floating around. Arguments get heated all the time.

The Top Gear team may have a similar ratio of male to female workers, especially when on location. Coupled with that there will be a very high proportion of alpha male types working on the show. Not just the talent but senior production crew, camera people etc. it is quite feasible that blow ups of this type on a smaller scale could be a daily occurrence due to pressures to meet deadlines, weather, mechanical problems with the cars etc. it happens all the time, everyone on the set will have been on the end of that, including Clarkson. If people can't deal with that pressure they are working in the wrong industry. I have been on a set where one of the idiots working alongside me got lost on the way to the studio (a journey he had made several times) and cost the production company £100,000 by holding up production. He had his ears chewed off by the company director in charge of transportation for about 20 minutes although it seemed a lot longer. He never worked for the company again. Incidentally that company director was female and she really let people have it with both barrels when they screwed up. The difference this time is it went a step further and got physical. For that the instigator got punished and rightly so.

Unless you have worked under those conditions the whole concept will be alien to you.

Now do I have to say it again? It was right that Clarkson was punished!

You're still trying to justify it though. There is no justification.

There is no perspective to put it in to.

It's not just a shouting match we're talking about.

Many, many people work in high pressure environments without punching their colleagues.
