Up North :-)

Does anyone know how this word came about? I have heard different versions like a d*unk Scottish golfer screwed up and tried to yell Fore and Duck at the same time, that it was a charge given to unmarried couples in the dark ages, and in feudal times it was a type of licence granted by the king, i.e. Fornication Under Consent of King.

Anyone heard or know any others?
