"I would only watch it if it was done with spitting image puppets " I remember when my mum's cousin used to babysit me. I walked downstairs and they were watching spitting image and she freaked "because it wasn't appropriate for you". I still see Maggie in parody to this day

"What happened to the other, cooler Milliband brother? Sorry, i don't follow the circus of politics but just wondered." If reports are to be believed, after "losing" he fucked off to New York to work for a charity for the measly salary of £280,000 per year. Not bad work for a socialist if you can get it.

"Will you also watch it? I recon Ed will win it cos Cameron has been chicken about and got cold feet too many times for a head on one on one debate. " What makes you think it is a head on one to one debate. David Cameron is on first before the news with Ed Milliband replying after the news. One has the advantage being on before the public get bored and switch off the other has an advantage of being able to counter topics raised earlier

"I would only watch it if it was done with spitting image puppets " Bring Back Spitting Image! The puppets were brilliant, the satire scathing and it gave us all something to imagine the grey politicians as when they appeared on the box. The pc brigade would probably put the keibosh on it though

"What happened to the other, cooler Milliband brother? Sorry, i don't follow the circus of politics but just wondered." With Salmond dropping the ball about SNP intentions to enter Westminster and oust any PM. It does make you wonder if Mr Ed Miliband and him being voted in by the Unions was a patsy undertaking from the start? He was no way the better choice for the party. That would be a discussion to have.

"I'm jumping ahead a bit (Cameron must be boring me) but I read an article last week suggesting a return for David Miliband in a few years, once Ed has been ousted by the Labour Party, so he can't be seen to be launching a coup against his brother. I can definitely imagine that." As can I. He's got a core of steel.

"the winner of this isn't cameron or milliband... its paxman!!! god i forgot what a good interviewer he is... get him back on newsnight!!!" He was awful. Unless you think how good an interviewer is depends on how many pointless digs he can make while avoiding pressing on a single question of substance, I suppose. But then compared with Kay Burley, anyone will come off looking decent.

"Ed reminds me of a kid saying "but mum, please" He is so out of his depth. " Miliband was certainly dreadful. He even tried to pre-empt questions and Paxman had to remind him what the actual question was?

It's really something when Miliband managing to scrape together twenty seconds of character in the face of Paxman's embarrassingly weak questions marks him with the appearance of the most competent political leader in the country.

"Fact is the program has no relevance to the upcoming election. The real hard question was not asked... Why did CaMoron refuse to debate his election manifesto with Miliband during the campaign proper? " We all already know the answer to that question and I'd hardly say it's the most important anyway. If you don't already know why then I'll tell you. Cameron has nothing to gain and everything to loos by going head to head with Miliband. In my opinion Miliband is underrated by the public. Allowing him to stand on an equal bases with Cameron would give him a level of credence that would not be in Cameron's interests. So why would Cameron do it? " No matter how you dress it up it was nothing more than an opportunity for the Tories to score PR spin points over Labour as the real issues (as relieved from reading manifestos) could not be questioned or explored." My over all take on last night was a close but clear win for Cameron (and yes, I know I may be letting my own personal bias prejudice my judgment). I the other hand I also feel that Miliband did better than most people would have expected. (Having followed him quite closely myself rather than just reading the press I personally don't thing he did as well as he could have done). On balance I feel that Cameron came across as more competent but I think Miliband had a slight edge in coming across as more sincere.

"All the show proved was how weak Paxman was, totally inefficient. Time he retired" Completely agree. He was rude, twisting his truth and as Ed put it well: "You asked me a question, so let me finish it." The interviews were a load of poppycock as the interviewers were really quite poor

Very fawning over Cameron, never intervened with him in the same way she did with Miliband and to ask at the end if he eats 3 shredded wheat was like watching a schoolgirl flashing her lashes at a teacher she fancies. I thought her tone and style throughout lacked any sort of gravitas.

I was really put off Paxman, though he is a Conservative supporter. For all of his professional experience, he trashed my esteem of him, as he let Cameron consistently not answer questions and just spout puff promotion of the party. Overall, neither Mil or Cam were incredible, but Mil did come across as much better than I thought, especially due to the style of questioning that he got - at least he answered more of the questions that he received, unlike the spin doctor Cameron.

Maybe my own personal bias impaired my ability to see it. Most right of centre opinion is that Kay Burley is biased towards the left. I didn't see any of that last night either. Personally I think Miliband did pretty well in the question and answer section, maybe even slightly better than Cameron. He came across to me as sincere, honest and wanting what he thought was best for Britain. I personally still won't be voting for him but he did alright.

Some of that will stick but I'm guessing they have made the calculation that they COULD have lost more by going head to head. It's called politics. Hopefully, from my point of view, we'll never get to know what Miliband would do in the same situation.
