Kin hell nearly filled my undercrackers

Driving down to Gloucester this afternoon a Car swerved right in front of me hit the central reservation then went right back across the motorway onto the hard shoulder, I pulled over and the driver was fine and told me he must of nodded off, I gave him a piece of my mind after I made sure the plank was okay and could contact someone

I can imagine you being scared Kev but how can you tell someone off for nodding off ? Don't say the sactimonious stuff..... I can nod off at the drop of a hat without warning......

Not when your driving i hope. Anyone who is likely to drop of when driving shouldnt be driving full stop.

tiredness kills granny! if you feel tired when driving you should pull over at a designated rest stop, take a walk, have some coffee and set off again when feeling more refreshed

Some things are funny and some are not. Falling asleep at the wheel of a car isnt funny. If you know this may happen then you shouldnt be driving simple

I was a bit shaken when it happened just glad he never hurt anyone, it could of been much worse I felt better after I gave him some advice

sorry granny I missed your post, I told him after he told me he nodded off that he should take a break if feeling tired as he had just nearly seriously injured himself, I know what your saying but having a go at him cetainly made me feel better

It's easy to say that... as long as you are not 25 miles away from somewhere to stop.

By the time you know you are tired you are already in the Xander Zone... oops I meant danger zone. Blinks take longer, most people don't realise just how much longer. There have been some great studies done at Sheffield Uni. Video's of people in simulators... they think they are just blinking a bit slower but some have their eyes shut for a couple of seconds or more.

It's not always because someone has been driving for a long while either.

Most of the time people can shake it off, open a window, start singing loudly to loud music and so on... but the truth of the matter is it could happen to anyone at anytime.

I know a guy who done just that. Driving north on the M6 back to Glasgow after picking up a customers new car nods off and careers into the central reservation before waking up in a ditch some time later.

Somehow he kept his job.

You mean like that guy who fell asleep at the wheel in his 4x4 and caused a train crash a few years ago? Not a funny thing to have happen and I would have told him a few home truths as well!

Life is all about managing risks and used responsibly, electricity is safe as is car driving safe if everyone drives properly.

Just wonder what the posts would have been if that driver had taken Kev's car out and seriously injured him? "Oh well, life is a risk so never mind! Poor guy only fell asleep at the wheel..." I don't think so.

Glad you OK, Kev, makes you realise how easy it would be.......

If you like to sleep at the wheel, cruise control helps I have found. Wedge the steering wheel between your knees stick the cruise control on at 30mph (lets be responsible people) and off you go to Morning Town.

Works a treat!

having driven for a living on nightshift often felt tired , pulled into layby set phone alarm for 10 mins power napped then continued. like most say better 10 mins late than not arriving anywhere but the morgue.

I hope you reported him to the authorities. People don't take enough breaks which endangers the rest of us.
